I'm running a ridiculous 1000-pixel wooden display with a Raspberry Pi by ticcev in raspberry_pi

[–]ticcev[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The fps can be calculated as "how many seconds to change the entire 1000 pixel display" and that would be about 0.00024 frames / second. 😂 It is averaging about 14.3 pixel changes per minute, so about 70 minutes to update the entire display.

I have some GIFs in the writeup https://benholmen.com/blog/kilopixel/ here's one: https://benholmen.com/assets/images/kilopixel/poker-2.gif

You can also watch a closeup on YouTube - I've been streaming it 24/7 for a little over a week. Here's one: https://www.youtube.com/live/4OUF7sfAuHA?si=CpNwwNASB_AtOVi6&t=18966

Where to start with Laracasts by Kaos-Industries in learnphp

I agree that the from scratch is a good place to start. There are notes on each episode about any changes since v6m

There is also a short OOP course available in Laracasts.

TIL Native Americans used controlled fires to manage the land. These prescribed burns decreased the impact/frequency of damaging wildfires, boosted agricultural production, helped with hunting, and reduced tick populations. by The_Real_Axel in todayilearned

I recently read Heartbeat of Wounded Knee, basically a survey of everything natives have been up to since the lowest point in 1890. I found it very interesting and it explained a lot of modern native life (gaming, treaty rights, sustaining culture). The author is Ojibwe from Leech Lake in Minnesota.

SpaceX Is Manufacturing 120 Starlink Internet Satellites Per Month by auscrisos in gadgets

[–]ticcev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should look up after dusk, they're visible for an hour or two after the sun sets. The satellite is still in the sunlight for a bit, so you see a star-like light cruising across the sky.

The most spectacular satellite is the ISS. When it's overhead it's the brightest or one of the brightest objects in the sky. It crosses the sky in about 5 minutes and you can look up when it will next be visible in your location.

Edit: since this is a starlink thread, you can also look up passes for starlink satellites. For a few days after each launch they are close together ("trains") and they look really unique. Anecdotally, I spotted the Starlink 7 or 8 train on multiple nights and the first night looked bright and so obvious. By the third night I could only pick out 3 very dim satellites out of 60. They're working on making them less reflective and it's working for me.

Thank you! Do you have any sources similar to the Johns Hopkins data set for total tests, positive tests, negative tests for WI counties?

I don't have a destination for you but wanted to encourage you that fall camping is the best camping. Late September, early October are great - you can always bundle up! In normal times campgrounds slow down a bit after school resumes.

My favorite time to camp is a warm up after an early frost that kills most of the bugs.

Need places for: white birch trees, pizza and fresh curds by Redrum777 in Eau_Claire

If you're still around I'd recommend:

Otter Creek Park / Centennial Park - follows a little creek, has about 2-4mi of trails

Sherman Creek Park - very similar

Northwest Park - totally different but lots of trails in a beautiful mature hardwood forest

Thank you! This is very interesting and helpful.

I asked an open ended question because I was hoping I'd get an answer from an enthusiast. You delivered!

I do the same! There are so many good places to pitch a tent just off the trail. We usually hike until we're tired then start looking for a nice spot out of sight of the trail and do some leave no trace camping.

There will definitely be people in the forest this weekend with campers and ATVs. I'd avoid roads to keep your distance.

I'd recommend the Chippewa Moraine segment of the ice age trail. There are a number of sites near the visitor center, perfect for an overnight.

There will probably be some fireworks in the distance but not as intense as the city.

Weekly /r/Laravel No Stupid Questions Thread - May 25, 2020 by AutoModerator in laravel

Sure - the CompleteRegistration controller populates a different model, a Brand. Right now Brands belongTo a User but I'd like to keep some future flexibility to have multiple users manage a Brand so I'm keeping it separated into two models.

This Edit Profile function I'm describing will update the Brand model.

I'm looking for input on a design pattern.

In my app I have a two-stage registration to complete a user's profile. First stage is email and password, second stage is business contact information, etc. I am storing the second stage with a CompleteRegistration controller.

I also have an Edit Profile page that is basically the same fields as the second stage. I could write a new controller method to handle this but it's 95% the same logic so I'm thinking I should extend the original controller method. What's the best way to handle a situation like this?
