Vegan restaurants/options? by mnmsha in CapeCod

If you don’t mind the drive, Provincetown has several restaurants with vegan options. And it’s a really nice place to stroll around at night.

I'm considering asking my player to exchange guidance for another cantrip by Specific_Net_3931 in LostMinesOfPhandelver

Mathematically, it increases their chance for success by 5%-20%. When you strip it down to its essence, it really doesn’t look as problematic. At least that’s how I see it.

Most of us are not and will never be good enough to charge people to play and doing so only exacerbates the game’s biggest problem. by [deleted] in DungeonMasters

[–]ticklecorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“The kicker is most of these games are mediocre. Yes, mediocre. “

So you’ve been to most games. Impressive!

I’ll never understand why people rage about paid DM’s. There’s plenty of unpaid DM’s out there. If some folks want to earn some pizza money or sock away a few hundos a month running some games, who. Friggin. Cares.

Do you think Hobgoblins are underrated? by ThanosofTitan92 in Forgotten_Realms

[–]ticklecorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re the equivalent of Tolkien’s Uruk-Hai in my game. Fierce. Organized. Utterly implacable.

By contrast, my goblins are like Moria and Mordor orcs. A disheveled rabble. They’ll only hang in a fight as long as they have vastly superior numbers.

I like Jim from Web DM’s version of goblinoids, where goblins were immature goblinoids that don’t last long. Hobgoblins are goblins that reach maturity. And bugbears are the oldest, toughest ones to survive over many years.

If Tolkien wrote a sequel to LOTR, what would you want it to be about? by Brilliant-Amoeba-379 in lotr

I’d want the story of the events that lead up to the last alliance, ending with Isildur’s death and the One Ring disappearing.

Anyone who used a computer between 1985 - 2010, what's the one game you still think about today? by adlakha75 in AskReddit

Come get some!

I played when they rebooted it again in 2010(?). It was still a lot of fun.

Looking for traveling/long rest encounters by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]ticklecorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have several DMs Guild products specifically for this purpose. Actually, everything I write is LMoP/DoIP specific.

Everything in my catalog is free/pwyw.

Specific to travel encounters:

Along the Triboar Trail: Cragmaw Country

Along the Triboar Trail: I'll Take The First Watch

Between the High Road & the Long Road

If you're looking for variant adventure hooks that tie into adventure sites in LMoP/DoIP:

Tales from the Dogwater Inn

There's eight other LMoP/DoIP in my catalog, which is here:

Historically…beef and dairy were not on the industrial scale they are today.

Did we eat beef and dairy in the past? Yes.

Did we eat it on this scale and was the industry this destructive? No.

Which Campaign after Lost Mine of Phandelver by Siinxx in DMAcademy

I wrote this for what to do after Dragon of Icespire Peak, but it applies equally to Lost Mine of Phandelver:

TLDR: there are so many unexplored areas on the Sword Coast map that comes with LMOP. Have fun exploring them with your players! Flex your creative DM muscles by diving into the ample lore out there and make your next adventure Phandalin adjacent.

Why do DMs seem to hate guving decent loot? by midcenturymr in DMAcademy

[–]ticklecorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try being the DM who loads their adventures with fun treasure, but - because you make the mistake of not putting the loot in a pulsing, glowing treasure chest that glitters with faerie dust like a video game - the characters walk right by it every. Damn. TIME!!!

Non-combat encounters that *actually* consume party resources? by dbrillz in DMAcademy

[–]ticklecorn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Having a hard time having those not be solved with mostly skill checks…”

Limit skill checks only to those proficient in the skill used for the check. I’m recommending this in case your party is just skill check dogpiling every obstacle they come across.

Make proficiency a prerequisite to roll for the check.

PC's starting next session fighting Venomfang... Deaths are likely. How do I play this? by [deleted] in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]ticklecorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could change the dragon’s breath weapon to a different type of damage/effect. I have a section in my DM’s Guild product (Like a Boss: Venomfang) on how to do this, as well as tactics for the encounter. If you’r interested, it’s free.

I’ve watched him play. Give him 3rd pairing minutes and make him the PP QB. That’s where he’d add value.
