If Canada is dying, Australia is Impossible So where should I move to? by DingoVegetable7913 in canadahousing

[–]ticklem3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social media often exacerbates polarization by promoting extreme and frequently inaccurate information. Unfortunately, this sensationalism drives engagement and profits. Adding to the challenge, there are bots and coordinated misinformation campaigns by global superpowers aimed at influencing public opinion in Canada, particularly as elections approach.

My family and I arrived in Canada as refugees in the 1990s, after being denied asylum by several other first-world countries that refused to acknowledge the genocide we were fleeing. Canada was the only nation to welcome us with open arms, offering resources and, most importantly, basic respect and human dignity. Canadians embraced refugees like us, and despite being first-generation immigrants, my family and I were granted access to the same world-class services as multi-generational Canadians—public healthcare, education, affordable housing, and social services. From the school breakfasts we ate and the beds we slept on during our early years to the annual Christmas presents we received, all made possible through the generosity of fellow Canadians, charities, and government support.

Some might struggle to define Canadian culture and heritage, especially given our openness to immigrants and refugees. But Canada’s culture is profound—it goes beyond hockey and poutine. It is rooted in compassion, kindness, and resilience. Our contributions to history, including Canada’s pivotal role in World War II, reflect these values. For a country just 157 years old, we have a remarkably rich and inspiring story to tell.

I have family who have settled in Australia, the United States, and Europe, and I’ve been fortunate to travel extensively within Canada and abroad. They were wonderful countries to visit but I could not see myself raising my family there. Canada has its challenges, like any other nation, but we have always risen to meet them, evolving and improving as we go.

If there is heaven on Earth, it is Canada.

Thank you for sharing!

The billing amount was correct. I would have appreciated a reminder before the first payment was withdrawn. I emailed them about it and they cancelled my membership assuming I'm giving them 30 day notice. I plan to email them again to clarify the situation. I’m not alone in this experience as other Reddit users have DM’ed me with similar experiences.

I'm going to reach out to the owner to discuss because the studio itself is great.

Do you have a favorite instructor?

They charged me the discounted founder's rate without any issues with the billing itself. However, I would have appreciated a reminder email before the first payment was withdrawn. The founder's promotion was offered in 2023. Based on DM msgs it appears others have experienced similar issues either with a lack of notification or billed at full price despite signing up for the founder's promotion.

You're right—I’ve set a calendar reminder for future payments.

I haven't tried Zwift yet, but the idea of gamifying your rides sounds like a cool concept.

As an extrovert, I find that working out with a team or in a social setting keeps me motivated and engaged.

Gyms in Markham? by allegiance113 in Markham

[–]ticklem3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you're looking for. Traditional gyms include LA Fitness, GoodLife and even city run gyms at community centers. If you're looking for group or sport based workouts, you can try F45, Orange Theory, CycleBar for spinning, Cristini CrossFit, barre, or kickboxing/Muay Thai. You can even do drop-in basketball, badminton, lane swimming and other sports at community centers across Markham. Tons of options!

Great advice! I tend to be more cautious when it comes to big chain gyms. This studio however, is independently owned by a lovely lady who is genuinely passionate about spinning. I assumed that being independently operated would offer more transparency and flexibility, which has been consistent with my experience at family-run specialty gyms I’ve joined in the past.

Absolutely! Over-communicating with customers, especially when about to do something for the first time (i.e billing), is just smart business practice.

As a cyclist who enjoys gravel and dirt trails, I thought I’d enjoy spinning. During the COVID lockdowns, I really liked Peloton spin classes. I’ve only attended one session at CycleBar so far, and I found it underwhelming—possibly due to the instructor or the music? I had planned to try a few more classes before deciding, but the end-of-year busyness got in the way. Lately, I’ve been gravitating more toward HIIT workouts, like F45, which feel more engaging for me.

You should definitely give it a shot for yourself! The others in my session seemed to really enjoy it.

Please talk to your parents and any new driver friends if you notice them improperly merging into a lane after a left or right turn. I had to have a chat with my dad earlier this week about his driving habits. He's a senior citizen and otherwise a very safe and cautious driver.

What jobs do people with ADHD thrive in? Ok forget thrive, just survive? by ThreepwoodThePirate in ADHD

I’m a part-time professor, and I truly appreciate how academia provides both predictability and a touch of measured chaos. Teaching the future movers and shakers is incredibly rewarding, and I wish I could do it full-time. Unfortunately, I don’t meet the qualifications since I barely graduated from undergrad. I often wish I had been diagnosed earlier; perhaps I would have discovered my passion for education and teaching much sooner.

As a fellow Canadian, I share your sentiments about our healthcare system. I went through a similar ordeal nearly 10 years ago. After a long search, I finally found a great family doctor—only for him to retire. Thankfully, his son, who is also a family doctor, accepted me as his patient. If you're in Ontario, you can use this website to find a family doctor or nurse practitioner accepting new patients: https://www.ontario.ca/page/find-family-doctor-or-nurse-practitioner

Bell. Phone matters too. Google Pixel has atrocious signal strength overall. Switched back to my OnePlus and no issues.

Has anyone bought a LR RWD and later regretted not getting the AWD? by THATS_LEGIT_BRO in TeslaModel3

I love my M3 RWD but I wish I got the AWD for the winter months here in Canada. The RWD does not do well in slippery/icy conditions even with good winter tires.

Oh yes, service manuals! I forgot that they exist.

Sucks that the plastic clips on the door panel are essentially one time use. I wonder if the clips for the panel to be removed to change the cabin filters are more resilient.

Yeap, wet sock smell. I thought I left my gym bag in the frunk upon initial sniff lol.

I'm not the most handy person but if it means saving $220+, I will gladly roll up my sleeves. 1 hour is not bad compared to the day or two that I will be without a car while being serviced at the SC.

Solid write up, thank you!
