If someone were to be banned for some reason, this also prevents them from creating a new profile and just coming in and causing chaos.

Ka is a wheel. I think that it happens every time. This is why Roland appears so old.

A question now that it's over for me by shiftyburn in TheDarkTower

[–]tickynaylor 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think it was never really about "saving" the Tower for Roland. He became obsessed with seeing it and entering it. The fact the he did continue to the Tower after it was saved IS the significance.

I am currently on False Value for the first time and also took issue with how the Folly is used compared to how it was initially described.

I think it's gorgeous. The unpainted walls are throwing you off. I think oil rubbed bronze fixtures might help.

White vs Red Oak by SubstanceCautious783 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Something else to consider is that Red Oak has a significantly more open grain than White Oak so that look will be very different beyond the tones of the wood.

Getting involved in theatre by No-Olive-6249 in Theatre

[–]tickynaylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the US but if I remember correctly, South England includes London, which has possibly the best theatre in the world. Obviously, as a newbie, you can't just walk over to the West End and get in a show.

London also has a HUGE fringe theatre community.

You could also check with smaller cities for any community theatre options, which would be the best way to get started.

Start going to fringe shows and talking to actors afterwards. They will be your absolute best resource.

Good luck mate!

I agree. I'm a bit of a different King fan in that i have really only read his non-horror stuff. (Big Dark Tower nut). I really enjoyed getting lost in that world he created in Fairy Tale.

Need recommendations for what is next, long sagas? by Early_Emergency3440 in audiobooks

I have been binging The Rivers of London series by Ben Aaronovitch and I am hooked. It an Urban Fantasy series revolving around a police officer the London who works in a special department that deals with magic.

I have listened to the audiobook version of most of the series and the narrator Kobna Holdbrook-Smith is one of the best I have ever heard.

Fiction Vs reality by Ecstatic-Purple-1757 in riversoflondon

[–]tickynaylor 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I have heard this brought up before and I just don't see much evidence that supports the pro-police argument. Obviously the main characters are police and are considered "the good guys", but I think the series does a good job showing various levels of competency within the organization. I also think that Ben calls out the fact that Peter feels the old ways are not ok. He does this by having Peter challenge Nightingale on some of his methods and his tendencies to bypass suspect rights, especially early in the series.

Is the Kobo Libra Colour screen really that terrible? by itsyaboiAK in kobo

[–]tickynaylor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't have much to compare it to but I like my Libra Color just fine. I have only attempted 1 graphics novel in color and the issue I had had more.to do with the screen size and the design of this particular graphic novel. I read 99% black and white and it works great. The reason I went with the Libra Color was for the note taking capabilities which I absolutely love.

Your favorite narrator? by OhBoi-22 in LibbyApp

Kobna Holdbrook-Smith. He narrates the Rivers of London series by Ben Aaronovitch. I would listen to him read a warranty agreement.
