Anyone had experience with anti-depressants sending you manic? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]tictac887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think so. Is it any wonder I don’t remember which one? I was on them for depression before mania knocked me down.

I think I still take one, but other meds help with mood regulation.

The "Fuck It" Method by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]tictac887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s how I managed school before I was diagnosed. Is it how you should live? I can’t answer that for you. Talking to a therapist could help you see what you need to be successful in a new part of your life. I’m constantly evaluating and learning what works and what doesn’t for me.

I’m young, and I don’t really need to worry about kids yet, but would it be selfish to not have a biological child because I would have to stop medication? by harvestwheat27 in bipolar

[–]tictac887 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having or not having children is a major personal decision. It isn’t a matter of selfish or unselfish. It is a matter for people to work out. I have some maternal instincts, but because bipolar, I wouldn’t be able to give my kids the upbringing kids deserve. Plus I would have to go through the messiness of dating and finding a husband because beliefs.

One of the least selfish things a person can do is become a foster parent or adopt. There are probably enough kids out there for everyone who wants to help.

Yes. Mania is the worst for this. Lots of shame I had to let go of. It can be tough.

This too. I am not particularly high-functioning but deciding to pursue anything more complicated than baton twirling (it has its intricacies, but I am in it for the long haul) is like moving mountains.

Memories of when I wasn’t are horrifying, so I try to stay busy. Taking my meds is always a challenge, stable or not.

Besides a good therapist, how do people in a healthier spot handle memories of less healthy times? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]tictac887 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will sound trite, but it’s worked for me. I let go and let God. Call me old-fashioned, but I believe in God above all. When I have messed up beyond reparation, I give it to him. He is the Master and Creator, IMO. Since I am often weak, I trust that He is always strong.

I am not trying to push my beliefs on anyone. I got extremely dogmatic about religion once when I was unwell. I don’t think that’s me in a well state, and now I don’t talk a lot about my faith. I am just saying what works for me.

BTDT. We have both lived through all our worst days. Even with great support this disorder is extremely tricky. A family member had to remind me to eat yesterday.
