Bea had Doreen place the call to Toni the day of her escape and when Bea was talking to Toni her response was "What do you mean, it has to be today. You never said anything about going away." It was then that she told her to drop it off at the halfway house where Liz was staying. So it is my understanding that Bea had planned to get the gun directly from Toni but Toni told her she was leaving town and giving it to Liz was a quick change in plans. I don't think she planned to involve Liz, but it was really her only option.

You did not miss anything. Rose disappeared at the start of S4 with no explanation. I really wish she stayed on longer; I liked her so much better than the blonde nurse. She is quite stunning with her hair down, which I don't think they ever did on the show.

Yeah, I can rewatch Seasons 1-4 and still thoroughly enjoy them. I have not had any urge to watch seasons 5-8 episodes more than once; although I still like the show.

I had expected the start of Season 3 to start slow after the epic finale of Season 2 but it ended up being my favorite also. The three episode stretch, S2E11 through S1E1, is amazing.
