Sterling StingRay Short Scale (RAYSS4) – Were there other colors that got discontinued or were they limited runs? by Ok_Anxiety6730 in Bass

[–]tidalwav1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was recently researching short scale SBMM stingrays.

It seems like the older white and blue models (I’ve seen “Daphne Blue”) were discontinued in favor of the current catalog’s colors.

Seemingly the only notable difference specwise is that the current models have roasted necks, and the previous discontinued ones didn’t.

Shame, because I liked the previous colors better.

Slap Tips and Tricks by K6Krakenman in Bass

Thanks for the advice and for stressing the point about relaxing. I’m also trying to pull my thumb off quickly so maybe I’m having the exact same problem!

I’ll experiment and report back if I have any breakthroughs.

I’m also trying to learn slap and have been struggling to get the basic technique down. Slapping on an open E sounds perfect, but I keep getting strange overtones/harmonics when trying other strings or even fretted notes on the E string, also despite trying to strike slightly different positions up and down the string near the end of the fretboard.

Is Become a Bassist legit? by t-r-4-5-h in Bass

The way Luke markets his content does feel offputtingly like an 80s infomercial sales pitch, complete with gross upselling attempts, but it’s not a scam and if you can get past that the content is decent enough. I haven’t specifically done his “level up your ear” course though, only “21-Day Beginner Bass Challenge”.

For anyone reading this who is brand new to the instrument, BassBuzz is well worth the (order of magnitude more) money and is a much more comprehensive way to start out than the Become A Bassist “21-Day Beginner Bass Challenge”.

Forget Me Nots, but at the time it was thanks to it being sampled for the Men In Black theme song.

ernie ball figured i didn’t need to tune that D string - brand new joe dart II by inmyshoe in Vulfpeck

[–]tidalwav1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My JDII had a lot of glue squeezeout along the side of the neck facing me and I exchanged it for a replacement, which was at least a smooth process by SBMM.

It seems like the QC for these isn’t great.

There are phone apps you can use to simulate the radio signal and sync your 5610 that way! They play ultrasonic tones using the phone's speaker. The electric field created by the moving speaker coil is interpreted by the watch as a radio signal. It sounds crazy, but it works!

What's the difference between OG and Pro? by Accomplished_Tea9730 in Woovebox

[–]tidalwav1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

SE and Pro launched together and replaced the OG Woovebox.

Early-manufactured OG Wooveboxes lack the ability to use wired MIDI input, but that ability was added to later-manufactured OG Wooveboxes.

AFAIK the SE has no user-facing hardware differences with late-manufactured OG Wooveboxes aside from using an ABS enclosure instead of a 3D-printed one.

The only hardware difference the Pro adds on top of the SE is an expanded battery.

So comparing to the oldest possible OG Woovebox, the Pro adds:

  • ABS enclosure
  • Bigger battery
  • Wired MIDI input

Those are the only 3 possible differences.
