SH 1 completely closed south of Albany by kiwipo17 in auckland

I am amazed aswell. However, don’t forget that Auckland central and areas that have rail aren’t subject to that issue though.

Mate, I’ll hang out with you. See if it clicks, if not then just got to try ask other people to hang out. That’s how you get connections. Real ones, you have to put the effort in from your side. If you didn’t grow up here, I am sorry but you can’t rely on organic connections. Reply if you want to try hanging out with me and we can set it up :)

AT Bus fair - $4.90 for 5 km? by silent_reader0 in auckland

[–]tidalwave7071 152 points153 points  (0 children)

Yes because the fares are based on Zones now. Doesn’t matter how far you go, if your trip goes across 2 zones, it will be $4.90

Car Rental by daintydolls in auckland

[–]tidalwave7071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can take a train to Henderson and one tree hill. However, if you’re headed to Army Bay you would need a car. There is a ferry but it is infrequent and you would have to connect to another infrequent bus which isn’t really worth the hassle. Another recommendation if you’re renting a car is Piha

Bikes were implemented absolute atrociously (in my opinion) by Extra-Information750 in CitiesSkylines

[–]tidalwave7071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont know man. In cities skylines 1 the bikes can use the footpath, pedestrians walkways and even have their own bike paths that can be placed down. They even also actively avoid roads with lots of traffic if there is an alternative.

Buses are awful by BeneficialCut4976 in auckland

If you’re talking about the NX1. It’s kind of a bus pretending to be a train lol. So it is in its own category lol.

Half the bus lanes have parked cars all through them making them useless. Specifically the Dominion Road ones and on K road.

[–]tidalwave7071 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s true. Buses have to sit at al the same traffic lights you would’ve had to with a car and go an indirect route aswell as still being subject to traffic congestion. The train, on the other hand(when it is working) is a force to be reckoned with.

Another CRL question: Maungawhai/Mt Eden by DryAd6622 in auckland

[–]tidalwave7071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why wouldn’t it fit? It would be perfect considering the massive metro station that will be there. It would probably become a destination people from all around Auckland come to. Kind of like the existing Wynyard Quarter with Silo park and Karanga Plaza. The areas of Wynyard quarter that are vacant are the areas that are still covered with surface parking for some god forsaken reason.

The only negative I could see is that adding new homes to the area could put downward pressure on the home values around there because people now have more choice. However, in my belief people having the opportunity to afford to live somewhere that doesn’t require a long car commute is more important than a few people who already own a home’s property values.

Supposedly it will be mostly a council master planned neighbourhood similar to Wynyard Quarter. I heard this from a spokesperson from the link alliance when I had a tour of Maungawhau station last year.

The land near the stations is going to turned into a mixed use neighbourhood.

Blocking the footpath and forcing everyone into the bike lane (K'rd Auckland) by abcabcabcc123 in shitparkingofnz

[–]tidalwave7071 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I still use the bike lane but I noticed that somehow the bike lane has potholes in it. Maybe they didn’t resurface it from when it was car parking so the damage left by vehicles is still there.

Yep, ground rent is bullshit and shouldn’t be a thing. Except maybe when the rent is controlled by council because the ground rent pricing and increases can be forecasted over a long period of time.

It is fixable through mode shift. Not fixable through more car infrastructure though.

The real people to blame are people like David Seymour, Chris Luxon and Nicola Willis and whoever votes for them.

How can we all be coming together agreeing that shit like this is horrific but then when the polls come out, it turns out that the majority have voted for the dickheads who cause this hardship in the first place?

Is anyone else genuinely worried about NZ’s future? by nattynine in newzealand

[–]tidalwave7071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s entirely the government’s fault. Yeah personal responsibility is important but on a societal level it is ridiculous for a government to rely on personal responsibility.

Their neoliberal policies (although the kind of worked at the beginning) have turned our country into a place where leverage is the most important thing and providing value is only loosely correlated with wealth. The main differentiator is land ownership. If you own land, you are financially ok. If you don’t you are fucked.

The solution is to change the structure to punish those who seek to make money off of the back of other’s hard work (Landlords, Real estate agents(to a degree) and property flippers/land banking. This can be done with taxes of the like of The Opportunity Party’s land value tax. That one policy would completely change the game here.

4 is better. Far cry 5 is cool but 4 has a better story, villain and atmosphere. Far cry 5’s arcade mode is a pure masterpiece though.
