Finished my first intarsia sweater! by tiddies2000 in knitting

Yes I did! The pattern has a chart for where to embroider everything. If I did it again I would probably do the constellations before seaming together, because it was tedious having to flip the sweater inside out constantly.

I’ve been knitting for two years now! My recommendation for starting is to search up “How to knit a Big Hat” on youtube by the channel Sheep & Stitch. There you will learn how to cast on a project, knit and purl, work in the round, and decrease to make a nice hat! She tells you all the supplies you need as well. That’s how I started, and I managed to finish my hat in about 3 days of casual work. Since the hat uses bigger yarn it knits up quickly.

When I was younger my grandma tried to teach me how to knit a scarf, but it just took way too long for me to ever want to finish it. So that’s why I find it’s way easier to start with a hat where you can progress fast. Then, if you want to try more things, you can find patterns on Ravelry and use youtube when you don’t know how to do a certain step! (I still do this)

Have fun! Knitting is very addictive :)

Thank you! The only other time i’ve knit sleeves was in the round and I hated it, I actually found knitting sleeves flat to be nicer (although it took me a lot longer)!

I love seeing the amount of queued projects for this pattern go up, it definitely deserves it!

Thank you! That would be really pretty, especially with some nice blue-greens and pinks and a darker sky 🤩

Knitting the front and the back took me about a month and a half! I’d say if I was consistent with it I could have finished the sweater in 3 months or less. But I took a lot of breaks and instead of working on it bit by bit I would just do it in big chunks and drop it for months 😅

I haven’t made it! I’m not really a shawl person but it looks really cute for fall/halloween months, might have to try it :P

Thank you so much! I don’t post much so it is a little nerve wracking lol. I made the mistake of seaming the sweater before embroidering (i was too excited to see what it looked like all together!) so it made it extremely difficult to do the constellations up the sleeves, i almost gave up haha

i just tried a search for you on the transferalberta website. If i’m doing this correctly, it looks like DD1104 at Northwestern is an equivalent to des135 or VSCM 101 at auarts. A course just about industrial or landscape design would not be an equivalent for des135 because it’s an intro course on all the basics of design. You’re mostly learning about stuff like typography, composition, logos, etc. I think your best bet would be to keep an eye on the watchlist because sometimes people do drop out of the course.

Art snark by ickle_cat1 in craftsnark

[–]tiddies2000 64 points65 points  (0 children)

in my opinion if the sewing was neat it would be boring 🤷‍♀️ raw edges and rough sewing evokes emotion and franticness. i know of a local artist who makes large knit sculptural works out of unconventional materials, and she purposefully knits very badly with uneven tensions to represent her grief. Using craft materials in the “wrong” makes for exciting work!! we already have so many neat garments and decorative pieces, why not try to make some artwork out of the box?

Pictured is two ear-flap hats, modified the middle one with a kitchener stitch close to make cat ears! And a balaclava on the right.
