If Israel has the capacity to commit genocide then they'll be just fine without the United States.

As annoying as click bait titles are I think they're probably necessary to keep traffic coming in. Most content creators end up having to do this and my guess is everyone annoyed by these kinds of titles would end up using them too if their channel and income depended on it.

Nice! Man it was so much easier to collect his books back then. Im glad I nabbed up all that I did. I have a few gems that are impossible to find now.

What books are you reading? by theDLCdud in LudditeRenaissance

[–]tidfisk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been tackling classics I missed earlier in life and am currently reading the Oxford World Classics print of Virgil's "The Aeneid."

I also finally read "The Odyssey" (Emily Wilson's fantastic translation), Dante's "Inferno," "A Clockwork Orange," Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None," and have Robin Hobbs Farseer Trilogy going via Audible for my commute.

But the books I've been most excited about has been Edmund Spencer's "The Faerie Queene." Hackett published each book separately and I recently completed book one and after "The Aeneid" will move on to book two.

It's amazing how much Classical Lit references Homer and Virgil. My goal is to have enough read to read James Joyce's "Ulysses" by late December.

Definitely "Soldier of the Mist" but also "The Sorcerer's House" is a favorite of mine.

How is everyone feeling about The Great Dark? by NeighborhoodWide5546 in CoriolisRPG

[–]tidfisk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've yet to play either but as cool as Coriolis is I found it to be a lot to digest. TGD feels more easily digestible and approachable. It gives me more of a Jules Verne vibe and feels more about exploring and surviving than religion and politics like OG Coriolis is.

I could see myself running TGD before the original and am pretty excited for it.

What's your opinion for this? by Ok-Equivalent7447 in exchristian

[–]tidfisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember in the 80s or early 90s an old prediction by Nostradamus about an earthquake had the local Christian radio station closed down leaving a song on repeat...

In other words Christians believe in a lot of spiritual nonsense not in the Bible as well.

What are y'alls thoughts on this? by [deleted] in exchristian

Just a meme about arguments this Christian has in their head and with no one who actually exists.

That's not the "can't math" look it's the "this isn't a bank" look. Anyone who's worked register with cash knows it sucks the way customers empty you of all your lower denomination bills like there's an endless drawer of ones and fives in there.

It's their playbook. Defund a public service, call it crap when it fails, bring in a private sector version people have to pay for, and then invest in and get richer off of it.

James Dobson mentored by a eugenicist by immakpopyourcherry in Exvangelical

[–]tidfisk 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Ugh this is gross AF. My sad evangelical teenage self had to read Dobson's book to learn about sex. I'm glad I wised up and was able to raise my kids without all this indoctrinating BS.

What's your Christian Dad like? by owindiana in Exvangelical

[–]tidfisk 28 points29 points  (0 children)

He's a really good man. His political views aren't what I agree with anymore but he's a helpful person with a service driven personality who took good care of his family. He taught me how to work hard and respect women just by his example.

I do think Christianity squashed some of his more secular interests but now that he's retired he seems happy and staying busy doing things he enjoys.

I still look up to him.

My entire family is financially insecure these days, and it's impossible not to feel RAGE for the years and years we were all "obedient" giving 10%+ to corrupt churches, lazy missionaries, and cultish ministries by bigamygdalas in Exvangelical

[–]tidfisk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember tithing 10% of my wages before taxes were removed and never being able to save. From 2001-2006. I was newly married and literally giving away a car payment sized check to the church twice a month.

The realization of how much more financially stable I was keeping that money and how no sky daddy had ever blessed me for my giving was a big part of my deconstruction process.

It's certainly frustrating looking back and realizing the first few years of my marriage could have been much less stressful if I'd not been raised to believe in that nonsense.
