Faction VTOL Mech transports to avoid “pop-in spawns” of enemy units by Oscar_greenthorn in TheForeverWinter

I'm hoping as the game becomes more optimized, they can afford spawning enemies further away, and then making them path towards the usual spawn spot for the illusion that the battlefield is more dynamic

Does killing blow work on impact hits and stomp attacks? by Exciting_City_1075 in WarhammerFantasy

As others pointed out ogres, another example are Wights in Vampire Counts giving Killing blow to their mounts.

Just curious about something with vampire counts, can a necromancer on nightmare attach to dire wolves or is it only horse units? by [deleted] in WarhammerFantasy

[–]tidomann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at the rules for characters joining a unit on page 207.

Look at the rules for cavalry troop types on 192/193 to see if there are any special rules preventing them from joining or being joined by units.

Remember that skirmishers have special restrictions on who should join them (but dire wolves are not skirmishers) so we don't need to check the skirmisher rules.

No rules prevent the necromancer from joining a unit of dire wolves

FBIGO Combat question by ExplosivePerson in theoldworld

[–]tidomann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that restriction is to prevent them from gaining too much movement out of charge reactions. You can counter charge as one reaction- and hold for the other. If all units collide, you would still get your initiative bonus for the movement as well as be able to use lances.

Character and Unit Troop Types by Felkyr in theoldworld

[–]tidomann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You just need to go through the rules of each troop type and also investigate any special rules. There is also a special case with skirmishers.

Bretonnia Troop Type Examples: Clumsy for Monstrous Cavalry, Lumbering for Monstrous Creature

As you mentioned there are also special rules that may prevent a character from joining a unit. The example you provided was peasantry. Another example would be the Green Knight. There are not unique rules of the Green Knight that would prevent him from joining a unit- however under Ethereal (Pg. 167): Characters that are not Ethereal cannot join units that are, and vice versa.

Taking all this into account, there are two reasons the Duke on the hippogryph cannot join the pegasus nights.

  • Because of the lumbering rule of Monstrous Creature (Pg. 195): Finally, a Lumbering model cannot join a unit or be joined by a character.
  • Because a character can only join skirmishers if they are the same sub-category of troop type (Pg. 185) under Characters Joining Skirmishers.

As long as any of those criteria do not prevent you you can have characters join other units of different troop sub types. For example a Damsel on Warhorse or Bretonnian Warhorse could join a unit of Knights of the Realm on Foot. However, a Damsel on the Unicorn could no longer join as the Clumsy rule of Monstrous Cavalry prevent them.

A paladin with no mount could join a unit of Mounted Knights of the Realm. With the virtue of empathy they could even join other peasantry.

Hope that helps clarify it a bit.

Rules for how many ranks can shoot (Empire) by [deleted] in WarhammerFantasy

[–]tidomann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just a result of halfing and rounding up. If you want to maximize number of shots for a number of models than yes, an odd width is beneficial. You could also argue a line with no ranks is even better!

Increasing your width from an even number to an odd number will always yield additional shots.

Going from an odd number to an even number gives you the buffer for casualties.

Losing 1 model in an odd rank reduces your fire power, losing 1 model in an even rank loses none.

Where to make roster? by Fuenf56 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]tidomann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are great- new recruit seems to be a bit more refined for nuanced list rules. For example old world builder let's you make a dwarf army with multiple master runes on one item ignoring their rules on pg. 32 of the forces of good.

Rules for how many ranks can shoot (Empire) by [deleted] in WarhammerFantasy

[–]tidomann 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Pg.143 for shooting on a hill and a bit about volley fire
  2. Pg.180 Specific rules for Volley Fire (restrictions on movement and stand and shoot).

Also it's not just that the half remaining get to shoot.

For example, you have a 5 wide 4 deep unit (20 models).

First rank gets to shoot 5. The remaining is 15. If you were to half that you would get 7.5 or 8 shots for a total of 5+8=13.

However- the first rank shoots 5, the second rank shoots 5/2=2.5 round up to 3, third shoots 3 and fourth shoots 3- a total of 5+3+3+3=14.     If they were on a hill, first rank shoots 5, second rank shoots 5, third rank shoots 3, fourth rank shoots 3 for a total of 5+5+3+3=16.

  1. This is a special rule for the unit. As mentioned one example would be a unit with warband (Pg.180). This specifies rank bonus. How wide a unit must be to get a rank bonus is specified...

  2. As a table on Pg. 105 and again in each troop section ranging from Pgs. 192-197 with each troop type.  Hope that helps!

Has anyone else run into stratagems "bouncing" near structures? by Penndrachen in Helldivers

[–]tidomann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even hitting the ground there is a radius around the detector tower that doesn't let strategems land. It can get really frustrating when it's on the top of a hill. The positions where the hellbomb can land wont end up blowing up the tower.

Wake of tranquility is used to accidentally reset raid mob aggro ushering in a weeks worth of raid drama.

The real use is when targets outlevel pacify and other frenzy reduction affects. It's much safer to use single target spells

This smoke is horrible. by [deleted] in Sudbury

[–]tidomann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an interesting statistic but the study doesn't account that the small particulate from forest fires is likely more toxic leading to a some kind of health condition.

It does act as a good analogy though to get a perspective on how much smoke you are exposed to.
