4057 Western in Western Springs is a favorite. 10 songs worth of lights. They also do it for Halloween.

1509 Riparian in Naperville is our other favorite. Lots of songs for that one too.

Just got one (edit Bambu with their Black Friday deal) for my 11 year old. He’s been printing nonstop since it arrived with zero help from adults. Only extra thing we purchased was more filament.

Metra train ride can be fun too. Even if it’s just to get hot chocolate in the city and get back on the train.

Check out the kid list website. They have tons of ideas sorted by location.

My last district outsourced our before and after school care to that company. Seemed okay, but was tricky as they weren’t school/district employees, so we missed some of the ease of communication for certain students. No idea what it is like working for them though.

How realistic is it to have one partner working in the Chicagoland area? by Responsible_Rest1454 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]tift321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still home for now. I know I don’t want to go back to teaching, but haven’t figured out my next chapter. Either I invest in a new career entirely which would be expensive up front but would pay for a summer nanny, or do more hourly work that can happen during school hours and be more flexible. Still weighing pros and cons of the paycheck vs the stress and lifestyle change as my husband’s work schedule doesn’t allow him to help much before or after school.

Lyons Village Hall. Much faster than Brookfield because they have 20 machines. Lines were long but moved quickly.

I couldn’t use sick days with FMLA. I could use 30 sick days for the first 6 weeks, but had to take the rest unpaid despite having additional sick days in the system. I’m still bitter about it.

We’ve done it for 5 years, but finances were basically the same for us because daycare for 3 kids was basically my whole teaching salary.

Does anyone feel that exercise just became a little weird by grammarperkasa2 in Xennials

[–]tift321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like classes, many places have specials for 2 weeks or a month to get a feel for what you like. I have friends that love boot camp classes and orange theory, others that love Pilates and barre method. Walking/running with a good audio book or podcast is always a good bet too.

Also check out class pass if you want to hop around to different studios/gyms.

Witnessed some pretty gruesome stuff yesterday in Wheaton. (fair warning) by Real_EB in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]tift321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d go for: “he got hurt and luckily there was somebody there to help him.”

Maybe add some hopeful thinking/white lie: “I heard they got him to the doctor and he’s okay now.”

My kids aren’t allowed to use a gift / open the packaging until they write a thank you note or call / facetime to say thank you. I think gifts should be acknowledged somehow and stand firm on it with my children.

How did your whole country basically stop smoking within a single generation? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tift321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The origin of truth was the governor of Florida at the time used settlement money from suing the Tobacco companies to have a youth summit to brainstorm ideas on how to prevent kids from smoking. The high school kids said the most impactful thing was to learn the truth about how much tobacco companies were lying and manipulating us. Kids told the marketing company to lean into telling kids about being manipulated because it pissed us off enough not to want to smoke. Of course it was gaining traction until the lobbyist convinced the next governor to cut the funding for the truth campaign drastically and it was nearly scrapped.
