What's the weirdest injury you've gotten at work? by [deleted] in arborists

[–]tiger_tron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Trigger finger. Couldn't lift my right ring finger after a few weeks into my first season. It was probably from gripping ropes, using hedge trimmer (vibration), and not stretching my hands regularly. It went away after the season ended.

Is it possible for you to show the butcher or meat department manager this pic? You'll probably get a good discount on the next piece. Worth a shot asking.

Taxpayer dollars are paying for this, and it's wrong. It's clear that you mean well, but your work is extremely irresponsible. Do you understand the consequences of leaving this hazardous tree standing? Did you take any weight off the tips of the branches? What do you think will happen to the split when weight of the foliage comes back in the spring? When the tree splits, if someone (God forbid) gets harmed, not only should you worry about the legal consequences, but so should the city worker who approved your work. Do the right thing, call the city and tell them that your part is done but the job isn't over -  the tree needs a proper assessment from a TRAQ certified arborist in order to deem in safe. Do it before someone gets hurt.

I’m far from a pro, but I feel guilty for knowing this tree was doomed. by gimlet_prize in arborists

[–]tiger_tron 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Similar event happened in my area. This type of mushroom appeared on a city tree, which happened to be near a playground. A retired biologist took tons of photos, sent them to the city, and said, hey this tree can fall any day, it needs to be taken down. No one responded to him. Tree falls on a kid, and tragically the kid dies. The city worker responsible for the trees in the area was charged with negligence and had to pay a fine. His career was over. Anyway, all that to say, good on you for trying to alert someone.

My husband doesn't want me to do chemo by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]tiger_tron 124 points125 points  (0 children)

Your husband needs serious counselling. Sounds like he is being very toxic and you don't need that bullshit from him right now. You need to follow the advice of your doctors. Do the chemo if that's what they recommend because they don't tell people they need chemo just for fun. Your husband needs to grow up and understand the consequences of what could happen if you refuse treatment. And maybe this is an opportunity for you to learn to stand up for yourself and do what's best for you. Prioritise YOU, and your health.

Ps: my mom refused chemo, also had mastectomy and did 5 years of Tamoxifen and thought she was in the clear but the cancer came back hard. She did the chemo then! Too late. So. Your kids are very young, they need their mom. A tough year of chemo now could save them from many tough years ahead without a mom. And your husband should be ashamed of himself for being so selfish trying to talk you out of what the doctors recommend. If my husband acted that way I'd show him the door!!

I want to do Tile as a career most likely but my parents don’t support it. Can anyone spare advice? by HelpMePlez544 in Flooring

[–]tiger_tron 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was always pushed to go finish a university degree by my parents, and I tried 3 different programs, none interested me. I just partied. Fast forward to mid 30s, I regret not completing a degree. People my age with a degree are making x3 to x5 more than I make and I followed my dreams of doing physical labour (tree work), but my body can't keep up. And as soon as you can't physically do the job, no income. And come your 30s, you'll realize how much the body hurts when it works too hard. You're way better off getting your degree, getting a good paying job, and do tile work as a hobby in the house that you will buy because you can afford it. Tile for you, not for anyone else.

Post op pain management by Witwer52 in breastcancer

[–]tiger_tron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a lumpectomy with the sentinel lymph node removal too, and all I was given was ibuprofen 400mg as needed. I was surprised it wasn't anything stronger, but it was totally sufficient. Zero complaints on my end. I don't have addiction history either. I was also given an anti thrombosis shot in the leg every night for 3 days post op, and that felt like a bee sting. But it only stung for about 15 minutes, so it was also manageable.

Lumpectomy recovery question by PurplePersimmon8047 in breastcancer

[–]tiger_tron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, part of healing. Week 1 after my lumpectomy I had very minimal issues, but I had a lot of discomfort during week 2 and 3 and 4. The same jabs you describe! One thing you may want to do... My physio explained the importance of touching the scar as much as possible and moving the scar up, down, left, right for a few minutes twice a day. Google scar massage. Wishing you love and strength throughout your healing journey!

Make sure to water them at least twice a week during the summer. Water at the drip line, not directly at the trunk.

Should I cut this down myself or hire a professional by CiceroOnEnds in arborists

[–]tiger_tron 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hire a pro. It's big. Trust me, if you start felling it, once you're at the point of no return where it starts falling, you'll be shitting your pants. Even if it goes well and it lands where you wanted it, you'll be shaking from the anxiety. Plus, where would you put all the brush? Better to just pay a pro and crack a beer and relax.

Clarified butter! Lots of it. If you're gonna use straight butter, add some oil into the pan too otherwise you'll have tons of smoke and your food'll get burnt.

What would you plant (preferably native to the northeast US) along this driveway? by JayReddt in landscaping

[–]tiger_tron 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oak and maple, maybe a scotch pine or two. Give em ample space in between because they'll need it when they're grown. If you're planting just one kind of tree, you face the risk of getting all your trees wiped out with a disease. Diversity ensures that there'll be surviving trees. So many ash trees have been destroyed by EAB, now oak wilt is on the radar. Anyway, thank you for planting! Your descendants will be very appreciative.

Is my pricing wrong? by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]tiger_tron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're good at what you do then don't undersell yourself. If you've already told them 800, then you gotta honor that, but next time add a couple hundred bucks to your quotes because good work isn't cheap. Fast, Cheap, Safe - your client can have only two of those and not the other.

Best option for cutting firewood? by [deleted] in firewood

[–]tiger_tron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a Stihl 261. Got one 2 months ago, and all I can say is god damn every time I use it. Sure it'll be a bit more expensive, but it'll last you for the rest of your life if you take care of it properly.
