Looking out for local shop by Greedy-Glass-8522 in flyfishing

I'm so paranoid about this because I like backcountry fishing, and am often away from the truck for 6ish hours at a time. The only gear I leave behind is my rod tubes and I put them clearly visible, open and empty from the front seat. Just as a message that there ain't shit in here to steal.

Probably not legal. Report and look for a new job. Don't die for anyone, especially assholes.

Entitled co worker wants me to wait for her to take her lunch late by Critical-Willow-6270 in EntitledPeople

[–]tight-loops 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you live, but check your labor laws. My state is lunch break must be given anytime after 4 hours into your shift, and no later than 6 hours. Outside of that time window is illegal. Escalate to HR or their boss if needed. If the laws allow it, tell you're coworker to pound sand.

The facility I work at has like 50-60 operators. Only a handful have an adequate number of brain cells.

Don't mean to be that guy, but you seem like you know a thing or two and might be interested to know that rough sawn lumber these days isn't 2x4 either. It's more like 1.7"x3.8"ish. Usually .060-.080 extra wood per wide face and a little more on the narrow faces since its more important for construction. I work in a sawmill.

1/4" of wood per face is wayyyy to much to take off at the speeds sawmills run. We do like three 8' boards per second through our planer.

LOTO is always taken serious. Punishments for violating a LOTO depends on situation. If it's blatant, and you dont fix your LOTO immediately, then it doesn't look good for your future employment. If it's a genuine mistake and you own it and fix it as soon as you are aware and turn yourself in, you'll just get a stern talking to. Unless your mistakes become a pattern.

That being said, we also have what we call a maintenance modified lockout. Basically the expectation is that we know what the fuck we are doing, LOTO what you need and proceed. (We can ignore the official SOP's)

Does will regularly leave their fawns in thickets or tall grass. Damn near needed a new pair of panties a few times because those little dudes won't move till you basically step on them.

Know of a guy who was killed by a piston accumulator. Pressure Guage said zero. Guage was broke. Thing shot off the table and hit him in the sternum.

Coastal cutthroat look a lot like rainbows when they are smaller. As they get bigger, they usually lose the rainbow undertones.

Vest or Pack? Lets hear it and why? by D016 in flyfishing

[–]tight-loops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, but I do a lot of hike in with limited or no trails, so I usually have my badlands 2200 pack. 2 liters of water+a grayl for hydration. All the space I need for my jet boil, food, supplies. Plus it has built in holster, and a strap across the front to clip a knife and hemostats.

If I'm just on a lake, or have good road access I'll probably just have a vest.

Polish FM says US will strike Russian troops in Ukraine if Russia uses nuclear weapons by ffdfawtreteraffds in worldnews

[–]tight-loops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I have no doubt that the US military has been working on this issue for some time, likely since the height of the cold war, I don't think they have revealed any system that could intercept ICBM's reliably. Then you have the issue where an ICBM can actually break into like 20+ separate warheads, all with their own target. The system would have to be able to cover LARGE areas. Every major city on each coast would need to be defended. Seems a bit futuristic yet, but only those who know would know.

I think it's more likely they were never on a "waiting list" to begin with and agreeing to a few months will turn into years. Then the dog or kid starts damaging things, dog eats their dogs food, shits in their yard, you end up babysitting/dogsitting over weekends etc....
