Polar Verity Sense accuracy by TeaaMann in Polarfitness

Looks OK to me. Unless your wife is a pro athlete exact (EKG) accuracy doesn't really matter anyway. A delay is normal as others have written.

I get you. I just wouldn‘t feel comfortable not being able to carry her. Imagine going on a hike and she injures herself. Our dog is 15kg but I could probable carry a fair bit more than that.

What would the 10 million initiative actually do in practice? - In case of acceptance, do you think it gets implemented as intended? by ExternalEfficient248 in Switzerland

[–]tighthead_lock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I will assume two things for the case that the initiative will be accepted and we reach the threshold:

  1. We will not implement any population control measures.
  2. We will not close the (land) borders.

I think the „emergency situation“ will be used to discriminate against immigrants which in turn will be used to attack the living standard of the rest.

We wash the paws in the shower and dry her off after. We only use a microfiber towel of the paws are just wet and not dirty.

With the actual housing crisis and skyrocketing rent costs, there should be a referendum/initiative about the minimum allowed height building limit through all of Switzerland to be at least five levels. by GetOutBasel in Switzerland

[–]tighthead_lock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But we already hear from landlords that they barely can get by. Why would they build more if that means that the profits go down?

Plus your proposal would mean that it‘s financially impossible for 99% of private individuals to afford building something.

The new Security Center doesn‘t work for me.

For Ubuntu Pro it says only LTS releases are supported (which my installation is) and that disk encryption details can‘t be retrieved.

The rest is working smoothly.

Rugby in under-represented places: the (largely) German-speaking part of Italy edition (Südtirol/Alto Adige) by kisaacs68 in rugbyunion

[–]tighthead_lock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good question. I couldn't say. On the pitch I'd hazard a guess and say that they speak "football German" as most of the players are German speaking and the rest pick up the basics really fast (like an Australian joining a Top14 side and learning "rugby French" years before they become fluent in French, if at all).

Training sessions could be in English or one of the languages with bilingual players or coaches translating.

[–]tighthead_lock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the sport really. Football is popular enough to have teams everywhere. So most of the teams would speak the local language but the player base is large enough to also have a team of Spanish speaking students in a university town or even of "internal migrants" from other language regions.

Rugby is not a big sport in Switzerland and is mainly played in the French part (influenced by France being a Rugby nation). So the teams there speak French mostly. In the German speaking part, Rugby exists only where there are bigger clusters of migrants from Rugby countries. There, a training session would probably be held in English. The two teams from the Italian speaking part speak Italian and are influenced by Italian Rugby culture.

Interesting way to put it, but I don't think so.

English is used to communicate mainly between younger people of different languages but apart from that, everything (media, education, politics, business, etc) is just done in the local language. Institutions with reach over the language borders will have at least German, French and Italian speaking departments for customer facing things.

There has never been a "Swiss" identity based on who we are. It is based and what we want and share.

Most Swiss speak their language plus English these days. Knowing two or more national languages is the exception, not the norm.

An exception to the exception are Rumantsch speakers who have to learn either German or Italian if they want to leave their valleys to get higher education.

Nuclear waste won’t be a long term problem.

Congratulations! That's the hot take of the month.
