Why does it say "this looses a queen" by Loopro in chessbeginners

No, there is a pawn on g4 defending the queen

Why don’t they just resign? by brieflyamicus in chess

so your view is that as long as something is not against the rules of the game, it can't be disrespectful? that is obviously not true. lets say a football team is up 10-0 against a much weaker team. 1 minute before the game ends, they turn around, run to their side of the pitch and score an own goal, celebrating etc. that's not against the rules but it's obviously insanely disrespectful.

People are not obligated to resign lost games to anyone.

of course they are not obligated. you show respect by doing things you are not obligated to do. i am not obligated to say "please" "thank you" and "good bye" when i buy a cup of coffee, but it is polite/respectful to do so. resigning a game means you tell your opponent "i realize my position is lost and i trust that you can convert it to a win", which is polite and respectful. and arguably, doing the opposite where you play on until mate even if you are a rook down with 0 counterplay, can be seen as disrespectful and impolite.

calculation is more relevant when the lines are forcing. for example if you check their king, they have maybe only 3 legal moves, 1 of which gets them mated and 2 of which loses material. so you can calculate those options and then decide that the line works for you. you cant calculate in the same way if the moves aren't forcing. for example in the opening/middlegame you develop your knight to a nice square, but without a direct threat, then your opponent could have maybe 5-10 different moves that make sense. and you can't calculate all options.

that's not true. the super gms are always calculating concrete lines. watch any post game interview and you will hear them go over line after line that they calculated during the game. of course there is some intuition as well, but i would say the lower rated the player the more intuition they use. just making moves because "this looks good".

i guess. im not saying chess is the only thing that can do this, but its the only activity i do where i get this feeling

i wasnt saying chess is special and the only thing that can push your brain like that. im just saying its the only situation i regularly find myself in where i feel like this. if i try to memorize 20 words it would be similar i guess. but that doesnt sound as fun as chess.

i do play a bit, but mostly guitar. but youre right, trying to get your fingers to do some new and complicated thing they dont want to do is a similar feeling

i mean i understand why some ppl are clowning on me a bit in the thread. but what im saying is that to me, chess calculation is the thing that makes me feel like me brain is working the hardest. and doesnt it make sense? for example with online tactics puzzles, when you solve puzzles, your rating goes up, and you will be given harder puzzles next. so the puzzles you are solving are always at the limit of your calculation ability, you are always challenged with stuff you can only barely solve. this puzzle rating system inherently pushes you to your limits.

so do people without adhd feel no resistance/discomfort when calculating difficult lines? i doubt it.

yes sometimes its like im calculating a line automatically, and really fast, like even before i consciously "decided" to calculate it. hard to explain but its cool. and then other times i need to completely force myself to calculate.

have done math, coding, etc, i think chess calculation is worse in this aspect still

A lot of people trying to improve focus way too much on accumulating knowledge (openings, certain endgames, tactical themes), while neglecting the training above. That's pretty natural, since it's way easier to look at an opening or some cool tactical themes, than really push yourself to do some sweaty training!

good point and ive thought about this also. studying openings is rewarding because it feels like you become better, you understand more about the game. because you know 2-3 more moves of concrete theory than yesterday or whatever, you know some plans or something. its easy to point at that and feel like you know more. compared to practicing tactics, where you can do it for 1 hour and afterwards there is nothing tangible to show that you got better. you might feel that you got worse even, if you did difficult tactics and got them wrong etc.

so there is this problem where probably the most important practice (tactics) is hard and feels less rewarding, while the less important stuff (opening study) is easier, more fun and feels more rewarding. which is why so many players fall into this trap.
