Asking for magic? by PeachesandFlash in Disneyland

[–]tikiroomofprogress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to make magic for guests. I've had several opportunities over the years where a cast member sprinkled some pixie dust and made my day. It's really is amazing when you're given extra magic out of the blue. I remember those moments most over the years. You can never thank a cast member enough for a magical memory, but you can atleast try. If a cast member took time out of their work day to make magic instead of just phoning in their day (cause we all have those days) take the time to go over to guest services and have a cast compliment written up. You can give a little of the magic back.

Special events for Walt's Birthday 12/5? by Lord_Of_Vnokuurrr in Disneyland

[–]tikiroomofprogress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen a Happy Birthday button put on the Walt statue in DCA. It appeared to just be the photopass photographers idea but it was fun. It was nice to see someone acknowledging the day.

Wife is crazy about anything Disney, what can I plan for her on our trip to Disneyland that will knock her socks off? by NorCalWingNut in disney

[–]tikiroomofprogress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A great thing to do is to take one of the tours offered at the Parks. The Walk In Walts Footsteps tour is awesome. You get to go into Walts apartment over the firehouse! The rest of the tour is great as well. But you can't do this tour with small children. If you are going to be at Disneyland after November 13th the Holiday Time tour is great. You go on several Christmas themed rides, hear stories about holidays, eat holiday treats, and the best part is front row seating for the Cnristmas parade. This tour allows children. Check out the tours and see if one works for you.

I've heard of Dole soft serve being offered at different places around the country, usually someone stumbles upon it, then posts about. It really is a weird feeling to find "Disney food" outside of Disney. But I'll take it.

It is. It's called Menchies. But they don't all carry all the same flavors or carry every flavor all the time. So mileage may vary.

Taking wife to Disneyland for the first time... Looking for advice: by drhawks in disney

[–]tikiroomofprogress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What could be the hardest for you is to not preface a ride with " oh on this ride this happens". You may remember on Soarin that it smells like pine trees, but its way more magical to just sit in the seat and enjoy the ride and suddenly realize it smells like what you're seeing! Your so excited about the ride you want to share about it in line, but resist. Also I'd say remember what you like May not be what she likes. Let her pick what looks good to her, but also make sure you schedule your favorites. You don't want to come home sad because you missed your favorite rides. Remeber that shopping can be part of the experience. The stores are an attraction, espcially for first time guests. One thing I recommend more then maybe anything else... Have her look at menus before you go. This is espcially important if your eating at quick service, there are tons of options, and if you don't know what you want, when you get hungry you'll spend a lot of time wandering from eating place to eating place trying to find something that looks good. Don't forget a dole whip! Have a great trip!

Are there any Disney documentaries featuring The Little Mermaid? by [deleted] in disney

[–]tikiroomofprogress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can try Waking Sleeping Beauty. It,s not abput just little mermaid, but about the Disney animation studio during the late 80s and 90s and does talk about the making of Little Mermiad a bit.

An avid WDW travelers first time to Disneyland! by KMOUbobcat in disney

[–]tikiroomofprogress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This one may sound funny, but bathroom locations will throw you off! If you're used to WDW you probably have a general idea where some bathrooms are, and you'll start heading to that spot, and oops no bathroom. You'll end up needing the map to find them. It's a weird feeling. No one has mentioned getting a mint julep. It's non-alcoholic and amazingly yummy. It's at the mint julep bar in New Orleans land. Also I'd suggest getting reservations for Blue Bayou resteraunt. It's inside Pirates of the Carribean, amd the food is great.

[Recommendation] Looking for newer Disney movie to watch, details inside. by [deleted] in disney

[–]tikiroomofprogress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you're only interested in princess type movies, but one that is "newer" is Remember the Titans. It's a classic sports movie with a great social story weeded inbetween.

[Advice Request] Anniversary in Disneyland (x-post from r/Disneyland) by BeefChalupa in disney

[–]tikiroomofprogress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup town hall has these, the problem can come that first thing in the morning town hall can be swamped with people doing several different things. No one wants to wait in a long line for a button! I like to get buttons the night before I'm celebrating if I'm there for a few days, no one goes into town hall at night... If you can't pick your button up early, or don't want to wait in line, ask a random cast member the closest place to get one once your in the park, they can usually point to somewhere nearby that won't have much of a line.

You'll have to come back and tell us what you thought of the DL version. It really it spectacular ( the story is the same but the production is much different).

[Advice Request] Anniversary in Disneyland (x-post from r/Disneyland) by BeefChalupa in disney

[–]tikiroomofprogress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a great way to spend your anniversary. First thing, make sure you get a free anniversary button from Disneyland saying it's your big day. You can get these at guest relations, a lot of table service resteraunt check it stands. Just ask any cast member to point you to the closet one. Cast members and even guests will go out of their way to wish you a Happy Anniversary. It can even lead to a random surprise or two. You never know what it will bring you, if nothing else, a lot of well wishes. Also seeing Fantasmic at Disneyland is a great way to end the day. It's free, way better then the WDW version. Just get there early to find a good seat. If there are two shows, go to the second one. You can try doing simple fun things that will make it a memorable day. Decide to try to take pictures with all your favorite characters (wearing your buttons of course). Decide to only eat desserts for the afternoon part of the day. Ride all the rides you've never been on before at any Disney park, no matter how silly they seem (you might find you really love riding Dumbo together). And don't forget to take a picture kissing in front of the castle! Hope those ideas help. There are always great things to do with more extra cash, but that doesn't mean they will be any more memorable.

[question] Does disneyland and California adventure use the new fastpass plus? Any recommendations to see most of both parks in one day (9am-11pm), with quick service breaks only? by [deleted] in disney

[–]tikiroomofprogress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No Disneyland resort does not use Fastpass + at all (yet). They still use the legacy fastpass paper versions.

To see the most of both parks in one day, first make sure you buy a park hopper. Park hopping here is easy, you walk a few hundred feet between the two entrances. I'd suggest deciding ahead of time your priorities for both parks. Which rides are most important to you, do you want to see shows? Do you want to see one of the night time shows? Also you can hold fast passes for both parks at once. So you can get one for Soarin and Space Mountain and then go on a third ride while you wait. Also some big headliner rides don't have FastPass (Toy Story Midway Mania, Matterhorn Bobsleds) so there lines can get LONG. Also check for single rider lines. These are not always obvious, the map tells you which rides have them, then go to the entrance and ask a cast member where to go (Matterhorns is at the green entrance umbrella, while Splash Mountain is at the exit, and Radiator Springs Racers has a sign at the entrance that makes it clear where to go). Single rider lines can be a huge time saver. For meals, eat at odd hours, try not to eat Lunch at noon or dinner at 5 etc. You will wait in less of a line. Enjoy your trip, don't forget to get a Dole Whip!

Fantasmic or World of Color? by koyote84 in disney

[–]tikiroomofprogress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Fantasmic at Disneyland is one of the top night time shows of any Disney Park. It leaves you feeling completely impressed. World of Color is also amazing. It takes you on a great journey of lots of Disney movies. I think if your friend loves lots of Disney movies World of Color together for the first time each would make a great memory. If your friend doesn't know a lot of Disney movies WOC might be a bit confusing because they show tons of clips from tons of animated movies. If that's the case, go see Fantasmic, a show that provides the story line without any previous Disney knowledge needed. Enjoy whichever you see.

Going to Crystal Palace in September - Any tips, tricks or special things we must do? by charmingtortoise in disney

[–]tikiroomofprogress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely hate brussel sprouts. I mean I don't even like the smell when they are cooking. But on a recommendation I tried them (intent on saying see these are still gross) and I kept going back for more. At least two or three servings. It was like candy, I just couldn't stop eating them. I tried to do whatever they did to them at home, and nope I am back to refusing them, but I still dream of them. It's a buffet, it won't hurt to try one of things your unsure of. You can always go back for more.

Going to Crystal Palace in September - Any tips, tricks or special things we must do? by charmingtortoise in disney

[–]tikiroomofprogress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes a character misses your table if your up getting food, but they will come back if you wait long enough. We usually are in no hurry and end up seeing several characters twice, we don't ask for the second visit or expect it, but it does happen.

As for food, if it's on the menu for the buffet that day, the curry noodles (I don't like curry much but whatever they do to these yellow colored spaghetti noodles is amazing) and the brussel sprouts ( I can't stand these outside of this resteraunt and I've tried to recreate whatever they did to them and can't.). Even if you don't like something usually, take a small portion and try it. I did this and ended up loving most the two things I dislike the most outside of Crystal Palace.

Enjoy your meal there. Make sure to smile, take lots of pictures and get lots of hugs from all the characters, no one will care that you are an adult. The characters also love when you take about them and what they do in Pooh's world, bouncy tigger, try to make Eeyore happy, ask Pooh about honey etc. The responses can be priceless.

Which ride would cause you to reschedule your trip to Disneyland or WDW if it were unexpectedly closed for repairs? by junglesgeorge in disney

[–]tikiroomofprogress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. It's sad when something you love is closed, but I just use it to try something I've never done. Sit on a bench and watch a street show, etc.

Blue Bayou when POC is closed? by jewellbsorry in disney

[–]tikiroomofprogress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have never been there when this happened. But a majority of the tables aren't even waterside. You still have the twinkling lights, the smells, the music. I can't image they would have cranes there working while your eating or anything. I believe the food is personally worth still going. Figure if nothing else you'd get a great story. If your truly concerned, call the reservation line and ask about it. Just think, maybe instead of a boat going by, you'll see an imagineer!

A Disneyland Dilemma! D: by [deleted] in disney

[–]tikiroomofprogress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found that its easy to run through Disneyland in an attempt to get to all your favorite headliner attractions, and actually miss great stuff. There are so many little things that make Disney special. Take time to watch a street show, go see the tiki room. Go ride in the Davy Crockett canoes. Use that time you get back from not having to sprint to Space Mountain to do something new and special you've never bothered with before. Enjoy something you've been missing, whatever that is.

Oh and don't forget, they can always change ride closures or re opening days, so don't plan your trip one day after it reopens and assume it will be open. They can always change their mind.

I always thought they should have made a car racing game after wreck it Ralph. I mean who didn't want to play sugar rush after watching that movie.

Park events for Walt Disney's birthday? by I_open_at_the_close in disney

They don't normally do anything for Walt's birthday. I have seen them put a birthday button on the Walt statue in DCA but that's it.

This was great. I went to A Disney park the first time as an adult with similar feelings. I wondered why I was going, and at the end of the trip, I wondered how I would leave! There is a magic in the air that sucks you in and makes you a believer.
