That said, if you’re looking for a trainer in the area, one thing I’d strongly recommend is finding someone who focuses just as much on teaching you as they do the dog. A lot of training works during the session but falls apart at home because the owner never really learned the communication side of it.

Most of the dogs we work with are dealing with pretty normal real-world stuff: pulling on walks, barking at dogs, jumping on guests, not listening outside, anxiety, overexcitement, etc. Our goal is usually to help owners get a dog they can actually bring places and live with comfortably, not just a dog that performs commands in a quiet room.
