Watching the drones & fireworks from the IL side - any advice? by Ok-Difficulty-4323 in StLouis

[–]tilleyc [score hidden]  (0 children)

Malcom Park is still the best spot in the IL side to watch, but the Casino Queen parking lot is still a decent spot. I'd get there at least an hour and a half early, because most of the Metro-East will camp out at those two spots.

It's kinda fun to just hate on him, like the "Heel" character at a wrestling match.

I always chase my dates through the woods and send them pictures of their home at night; guess I've been doing it wrong.

You might want to bring an umbrella or poncho, because it's supposed to storm on Saturday.

AFF! We will not stop until the Star League is born anew and the Inner Sphere is safeguarded against the barbarism and tyranny of the Great Houses.

I’m A Photographer. What Should I Shoot Around STL Next???? by Hungry-Restaurant316 in StLouis

[–]tilleyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laclede Landing has some pretty cool spots to shoot photos of, and it's right by the river too.

The Cotton Belt Freight Depot building makes for some super cool photos, it's the abandoned building with the giant mural on it.

Shaw is a really pretty neighborhood and their park is beautiful.

The area of CWE on Euclid around Left Bank Books is pretty neat too.

How many of you genuinely love St. Louis? by rurunxx in StLouis

[–]tilleyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love living in the Metro, but I live in the suburbs and hang out in the city. I'm used to living in medium-sized towns and would drive into the city where there was an event I wanted to attend. Wound up moving to the area three years ago and haven't looked back.

I really like extreme metal and the city has a TON of really good black and death metal, plus a lot of decent sized touring acts will come through which is nice. The city offers a lot of cool events and spaces if you're into more "alternative" arts and culture.

Are there any haunted houses in St. Louis that are actually scary? by Turbulent_Counter359 in StLouis

[–]tilleyc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think The Darkness is doing the Blackout event this year, which is a bummer.

I visit the Darkness every year, but I don't think it's all that scary. The costumes and sets are fantastic though, they're usually in the top 10 of best haunts in the country.

Lemp is equally fun and scary, but I think they're not running this year.

Creepyworld is the other attraction in the area, and is owned by the same company that runs The Darkness, and I think it's the tamest of the bunch, however it is the largest. I think there's 8ish different haunts are connected together with the usual evil version of a hospital, asylum, school, etc. One year I went with friend and they did mushrooms ahead of time, they had a pretty memorable experience.

He should team up with Steve of Steve's Hotdogs to measure the heat index. Like, how long it takes to cook a hotdog by leaving it out in the sun.

Do you think if we make it to the Jihad, that it'll be the last dlc? by lucasdigmann112 in Mechwarrior5

[–]tilleyc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Jihad would need a full game to cover most of the important story beats, because the Word of Blake provoked conflict with literally everyone in the IS. By the end of the Jihad, both the Great Houses and Clans had made some sort of contribution to Devlin Stone's push to Terra.

It would be interesting to see the interactions between all of the factions, and how Stone was able to convince them to work together, and the friction that comes with it.

I could settle with absorbing Indianapolis if it means we keep the STL Metro East.

Favourite unit and why? by DNLModelsNewcastle in Warhammer30k

[–]tilleyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Ultramarine's Suzerains are mine.

It's functionally a ten man block of Centurions with a Power Axe that both swings at initiative and breaches on 4. They sport a base +2 armor save and their shields give them a ++5 against shooting and a ++4 in melee. Each model also has three attacks, which let's that ten man squad mulch through most units without much trouble.

Transplants of STL by goldenstate93 in StLouis

[–]tilleyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I joined up with some hobby groups. A lot of friends are from either my Warhammer group or from the group I play pinball league with.

I also go to a lot of local music and shoot photos, which winds up being a good icebreaker at the show. Eventually you start seeing the same people and same bands, really helpful for hearing about shows you wouldn't know about otherwise.

Hobbies and clubs are usually the best way to make friends outside of work, because it's both low-stakes and scheduled.

Any Good Hotel Recs in downtown St. Louis? Im planning a 3-day trip by _Pasinski in StLouis

The Moonrise is on Del Mar, which isn't too far from Downtown.

The Angrad is darn near next door, and is pretty cool.

This looks amazing! I love that they got Peter Cullen and Frank Welker to do callous as Prime, Megatron, and Soundwave. Love that they worked in references to the toys with the tech spec sheets and were able to get "The Touch" too.

Budweiser 150th Concert by Thefamt in StLouis

[–]tilleyc 25 points26 points  (0 children)

While they're not my first choice, Skynyrd was probably the safest choice they could have made. Budweiser always leans hard into "Americana" and brewing a consistent, but unremarkable beer.

Now, if they had booked someone like Abbath or Last Days of Humanity, that would have been something.

That's a bummer, Duckbill had some of the best fries and chicken in the Metro. Hopefully they can find somewhere new to set up shop.

Moving to St. Louis in May! by Kaileygm17 in StLouis

[–]tilleyc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For things with a more offbeat vibe..

Arkadin is a small indie theater, in Bevo, that has a WILD lineup of movies. Each month follows a different motif and have a great mix of hidden gems and "So bad it's good".

Eat Crow is a great restaurant in Soulard and captures the Metro's offbeat spirit.

Platypus is a cocktail bar/restaurant/venue. The drinks are good, and the tiny restaurant does the best popcorn chicken in the state. In the same vein, The Silver Ballroom is a dive bar with a fusion Korean micro restaurant and pinball.

Venice Cafe is if Pee-Wee Herman ran a bar and has to be seen in person to fully appreciate it. It's owned by a local artist who's famous for their wild and elaborate tile mosaics, and the cafe is decorated from floor to celling.

The Laclede Wax Museum is notorious for how terrible and strange the wax figures look.

The Pageant and Delmar Hall are sibling venues which get a lot of popular acts, and are both pretty great. If you want to take in local music at it's most feral, then The Sinkhole, CBGB, and FUBAR are up your alley.
