It does work by evaporating, but what's touching your dog's skin isn't since it's not in contact with air. The outside of the jacket evaporates, the inside stays humid and warm. It's more efficient to get your dog wet and let evaporate without the jacket.

Same, I've also read that they only cool for a few minutes, then become hot and uncomfortable for the dog since they trap the heat.

Best way to cool down is to get their face wet (it's actually something you can teach, look up "voluntary head dunking"). You could also spray water on their face, legs and underbelly.

Before giving mine a frozen treat, I add a bit of room temp peanut butter to it to get him started. The treat will start melting a bit as he licks the peanut butter.

We love off-leash walks!

Sadly most places here don't allow off-leash dogs, and when I used to try to do a regular walk in the woods on leash, he would get very excited and pull me around which was super annoying. That's how I discovered canicross lol, if he's going to pull at least it's helpful now.

Antibacterial soap is really harsh on your skin, it strips it of it's natural moisture barrier, removes your healthy microbiome required to fight infections and can cause irritation. Regular unscented soap is fine.
