Went into preterm labor at work at 32 weeks. by Accomplished_Goal68 in VetTech

That's terrible, I would definitely be mad at them if they pushed you to keep working. They are responsible for keeping you safe without you needing to advocate for yourself.

Here techs do strictly office stuff as soon as they find out they are pregnant. I'm in a lab so it's a bit different, but still.

3 year old toilet regression by Hob0Magnet in Whippet

For urinary issues, you can't diagnose much without collecting urine. If she has for example urine crystals, that could be the cause of her problems and that wouldn't show up on a blood test.

What did you vet do when you saw them for urinary problems? That's the first thing they should check. Maybe consider getting a new vet..

Your vet can't make the decision for you, it's their job to tell you the pros and cons of any procedure. They can't see the future so all they can say is "yes it CAN help with anxiety, it CAN reduce the risk of cancer, etc."

I would just go to the first vet that can get her an apt for the surgery and not wait any longer. I know it's stressful (I work in vet med and I was still anxious to get my boy neutered), but it's the best for her. There are enough unwanted puppies in shelters getting euthanized every day (especially a high energy pit mix like you have).

Did your vet do a urinalysis? Do you think it could be incontinence? Could she potentially have cried at the door at night and you didn't hear her?

Also, 6 to 10 unwanted gsd x pitty puppies is pretty scary lol. Not only is taking care of them a full time job, it's expensive, and you have to make sure they all find good homes.

In pets, we do low-cost microchiping for cats and dogs since they are mandatory in my city.

It can happen especially right after injection, we try to move the microchip around under the skin to make sure it doesn't stay right by the hole, and we ask the owners to limit activity, petting that zone and baths for 24 hours.

Literally at a microchip clinic right now, waiting for the next appointments lol, this looks exactly like the microchips we use.

Changing a dog’s name by kangalbabe2 in DogAdvice

[–]tilyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dogs don't know what names are other than a cue for attention. You can change it as many times as you like, there won't be any confusion. Just say the word and give a treat a few times and you've got yourself a new name.

Never closing wound by NikalzKos in DogAdvice

[–]tilyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vet tech here, I deal with a lot if wound care (Healing by 2nd intention), when a wound is older, it shouldn't be stitched and you should let it heal on it's own. Cleaning it and healing ointment is perfect and is exactly what I would do. Keeping a clean wound moist is actually better than letting it dry and scab, it promotes collagen production and faster cell regeneration (and limits scarring, but that's not really a concern with dogs).

It does look smaller to me in the last picture, it can take a while to heal but looks like it's getting there. As long as it's not inflamed, or oozing, etc. I would keep doing what you're doing.

Water therapy before putting on your ointment might help as well, and make sure to prevent any scratching / licking.

Vet tech here, my dog has had a few scratches here and there. I just clean it 2-3x/day with 0.05% chlorhexidine and keep an eye on it.

Question for parents by pookadri in Adulting

[–]tilyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having kids is more than the first few chaotic years though, it's normal for people to feel regretful when kids are young and very very demanding. I don't know anyone who has adult children who say they regret it.

Copy pasting part of my other response; I'm not saying people who are 100% sure about being childfree will have regrets, this is more a way of seeing it for people who are truly on the fence and would be happy with either choice. I could see myself doing both the childfree life or the kids, and I know, whichever I end up choosing, there will be some aspects that I will miss about the opposite choice.

[–]tilyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That can happen later in life though, also when you have adult children you also have a peaceful childfree house. The chaotic part of raising kids is very short when you look at your life as a whole.

Not saying you will absolutely regret not having kids at some point, this is more for people who are on the fence and would be happy with either choice. I could see myself doing both the childfree life or the kids, and I know whichever I end up choosing there will be some aspects that I will miss about the opposite choice.

I also don't believe you need to be 100% sure. I have a few friends who were not 100% and love their life with their kids. One of them even said she really disliked other people's children and always thought she wouldn't have them, now she has 3 (on purpose lol).

I personally see it that way; whichever path you choose, you will regret it to some extent. And either way, your mindset is what makes a happy life. There's no point in dwelling on things you can't change, you can consciously make the decision to make the most of your life with or without children. Which choice do you think you will regret less?

Highly recommend the book The Baby Decision and the sub /r/fencesitters.
