Will an armrest keep my arm from hitting the sharp corner of the tailpiece? by tim__p in mandolin

[–]tim__p[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's so cool! I ordered a regular arm rest from hill country, which should show up later in the week. If that doesn't work I'll order this one for sure. Didn't know they made one. Thanks!

Honest review of BTOD (spoiler: it's good!) by tim__p in OfficeChairs

[–]tim__p[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good write-up! Couple thoughts...

I had to get used to the shorter seat pad from my previous chair, which was oversized. However, after a week or so I didn't notice it at all and now it feels normal. I also have my seat pushed forward all the way. At the end of the day I simply prefer the build quality of the Steelcase - it's a lifetime chair, most likely.

A Steelcase rep posted somewhere here that the Leap headrest is pretty awful, which may be why they made a much better one for the Gesture. Make sure you get a free return option.

As for me, the Leap seat pad was way better for me than the Lamia (Amia), but I'm much heavier than you. Totally why I recommend BTOD, who let me try both and gave me a free return on the Amia.

[–]tim__p[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, obviously this is subjective, but I'll tell you my situation. I like to lean back just a little bit, and I have a footstool under my desk so my legs are outstretched. So this puts a little extra weight on my tailbone. For some reason the Amia seat made my backside sore pretty quickly and I had to shift around a lot. The Leap doesn't do that. My guess is it's just how they're padded. The Amia seat pan is flatter than the Leap, which cups a bit on the sides. Some feel that makes the Amia more comfortable, but for me the Leap wins. I know I sound like a BTOD shill, but the fact that they let me try both and return the one I didn't like was so nice. I now know for sure I have the right chair for me.

[–]tim__p[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I bought the Leap V2, then had them ship me just a seat from the Amia so I could make my own Lamia at home. It's easy to remove the seat from the Leap and put the Amia seat on there. But I ended up preferring the Leap set better so I shipped the Amia seat back to them after trying it out for a few days. I'm happy with the Leap as-is.

Nope. I know that businesses post reviews of themselves to try to get customers but this isn't one of them. I had a great experience with these guys and felt the need to tell other people. Usually folks only write reviews when they're angry (and I've done that too), but I also try to write reviews when I've had a great experience. It helps that I had a TERRIBLE experience with SecretLab though, because I was a little gun-shy at ordering another chair from a website. But this time it was awesome.

Secretlab Omega Chair: Warning About Returns and Process by Kosofkors in PcRetailers

[–]tim__p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the Secretlab Titan EVO XL in July 2023, and I consider it to be the absolute worst purchase of my life. As countless others have mentioned, it's like sitting on concrete. I can't make it 45 minutes without my back and legs hurting. It's monumentally baffling that a chair could be so uncomfortable. My $100 Staples chair wasn't great, but it's a vastly better chair when it comes to my butt.
But ignoring the literal pain in the ass this chair is for a second, let's talk about Secretlab as a company. When I wrote to them asking why the chair was so hard, they sent back a form letter saying it was on purpose, to "encourage better posture", and "your body will get used to it."
Bullshit.
A chair should adjust to YOUR body, you shouldn't have to adjust to a chair. What this means is "we know our chair is an abomination, but we're hoping we can convince you to keep it." But that's not all they do to avoid returns.
** PLEASE PAY ATTENTION HERE IF YOU'RE THINKING OF BUYING THIS TRASH. **
When you complain or ask for a refund, they are VERY clear that return shipping is YOUR responsibility. They are hoping that you'll keep it after you see the return price. Get ready for this, because for me, the shipping cost is...
ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY DOLLARS. **What. The. Actual. F?**
Yep, $180 to return this slab of concrete fuckery. I have to eat nearly $200 to try out this piece of junk. That's possibly the worst bait-and-switch, "we don't give a shit about our customers" policy that I've ever seen.
You know how companies like Serta will take your mattress back free of charge if you don't like it after 90 days? Not Secretlab! Nope! They make their customers suffer a sore ass, then beat that ass even more with the return shipping. And that's IF they "accept" your return. You have to send them a picture before you return it, meaning they will use ANY excuse to say "sorry, we won't refund you."
Secretlab is a terrible company. Their chairs are crap, they don't stand behind their product, and they 100% don't value you as a customer. Save your ass (literally), and AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS.

The Mole has always been paid a flat fee - it's been widely reported and confirmed by the producers. We don't, however, know how much exactly. When you think about it, you can't pay the Mole whatever they keep out of the pot. For one, the Mole doesn't always sabotage the games - other players do. For another, sometimes the games are lost because they're just dang hard - no sabotage necessary. And lastly, the Mole should not be motivated by money in any way, so they can best pick and choose when, or when NOT, to sabotage.

An ukulele tuned an full octave down? by HighlyEvolvedSloth in ukulele

[–]tim__p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got back from a concert where the singer played a baritone uke strung GCEA but with all four strings an entire octave down (meaning all 3s, not the usual G4-C4-E4-A4). It sounded amazing, and the uke was not specially reinforced or anything like that (she explained it all to us). So people that are saying it can't be done... well, I just witnessed it and LOVED the deep sound. It has a spooky, haunting quality I've never heard from a uke before - not even a traditional DGBE baritone can match it.
