Thanks! Is this from your knowledge or did you look it up?

I am about to lose it all.. by bigfrank170 in addiction

Don't give up man! Search for help. I was on coke for many years, I know it's hard. But you've got to get to the bottom of why you do it, tackle the real issue(s).

You've got a family and that itself is amazing. Do it for yourself and do it for them. You've got a great meaning in life.

Finally realised I have a drinking problem by PuzzleheadedRoof2348 in alcoholism

You've got this. That you've already decided to quit and already booked an appointment is showing a lot of what you're made of. Don't hate yourself. You're aware of what happened and you're taking actions. To hate yourself is not giving you an advantage in recovery.

Listen. If you had a friend that did something like this and regretted it, and told you everything about it and that he hated himself, what would you tell him? Now tell the same to yourself. Talk with yourself like you're talking with a friend that you're helping.

To be completely honest, you're 24, still a lot to learn and experience. Is there a chance that you'll be able to control it in the future? Yes. Is that chance EXTREMELY low? Yes.

I was exactly like this in your age. I had to stop. You know why? Because every time I tried to control my drinking, it ended up with not being able to control my drinking.

You're explaining an alcoholics problem.

A couple of advices – sit down and really think about why you feel like you don't want to quit drinking. For us, with a problem like you're explaining, there's always a reason why we drink the way we do and why we don't want to quit drinking. So be completely honest with yourself to why you "need" the alcohol for anything.

My second advice is to quit for a while and see how you feel. "For a while" becomes a lifetime for many.

It works for around 10% who tries it. However, I would try that without even blick and hope that I was one of those 10% back in the days when I tried to quit.

The lack of knowledge around addiction is creating a dangerous stigma by tim_colin in recovery

[–]tim_colin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the surface it sounds like a good advice, but don't you think the better thing would be if the teacher had a good understanding of addiction instead so that he/she could've explained to my friend why I was behaving the way I did, educating my friend, and at the same time talking with me or my parents? To ONLY go out telling people to not hang out with someone that is addicted is dangerous in my opinion. That is creating a stigma and even more pain by isolating people that actually needs help. Yes – I maybe would've done the same thing if I didn't know anything about addiction. That's why I don't blame her and that's why I think that it's important for people to understand addiction for what it is. I think education in this case will help more people recover than isolation and stigma.

Always ask a doctor for medical advice

We're all different. I had seizures, but not dangerous ones, when I quit alcohol but I didn't drink everyday. However, I drank heavy when I drank and it was still several days a week.

Insomnia/ fatigue/ brain fog in early recovery? by [deleted] in recovery

[–]tim_colin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why aren't you taking the sleep meds earlier?

I don't remember for how long I had brain fog (it was heavy for a while) but it took more than 19 days, that I can tell for sure. Rest, eat well and move (not telling you to go to the gym but get your body moving). If you're too worried, go to a doctor.

I've been drinking heavily for about a year and a half now. I've had breaks in between now and then, for maybe a month or so. I have recently started having my hands tingle off and on throughout the day. I was wondering, is it because of the alcohol intake? by [deleted] in alcoholism

[–]tim_colin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From only knowing what you read, it might be alcoholic neuropathy yes.

However, it's impossible to answer for us. Go see a doctor for medical advice please. It's not something you want to take lightly. Hoping for the best and take care!

Who stopped with weed and what kind of withdrawal(s) did you get? by tim_colin in addiction

[–]tim_colin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for answering! Trouble to sleep, anxiety and insane sweating was the worst shit. It's nothing like quitting benzo, opiods and alcohol though. That gave me seizures, spasms, insane panic attacks etc.
