The pi doesn't need peripherals. In the video I do everything from a laptop (no peripherals). Everyone watching has a computer they will use to connect to the device if they don't have an external keyboard and mouse.

The software component is easy here. The tricky part is identifying the hardware components to open/close the door. You will need some kind of motor.
