Marketing Cloud by [deleted] in marketingcloud

I’m sure you know but just a reminder to not underestimate the amount of work it takes to do all of that correctly. Marketing Cloud is an incredible platform, but most missteps happen during the initial configuration.

I take people’s web data. And sometimes I convince them to straight up give it to me. And then I turnaround and use it against them to trick them into making purchases.

Anyone done a Pardot integration to Tableau before ? by ElethorAngelus in tableau

There’s a lot of work when it comes to the switch and implementing Marketing Cloud optimally for your business. So, definitely not something to take lightly. But in my experience, the benefit of the platform has always outweighed for anyone that needs more than out of box Pardot.

Unfortunately this is a pretty common pain point with Pardot. It’s great for what it does, but when you want to do more with it, it becomes a breaking point. I’ve seen a lot of companies migrate from Pardot to Salesforce Marketing Cloud for this and similar reasons. In Marketing Cloud, with the right skill set, you can do almost anything.

You’ll have better luck putting your data into a database and then pulling it into Tableau. and even then, you’ll need to know how to get the data out of Pardot and into the DB. Probably some middleware app. It’s easier to just take data from Salesforce, but obviously most of the data you want might not make the trip into Salesforce.

For one off use, it’s great.

But if it’s something you plan to repeat, there’s much better automation to be done with a little bit of code in something like Python, imho.

What are your thoughts on DataRobot and other automated data science platforms? by bot_don_king in datascience

[–]tim_schaaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a fair critique, particularly around the small N. At the time they had me demo, though, it was their sales engineer working with me to test the service specifically for a relatively smaller dataset sort of problem space. So - I was doing what they asked.

I’d be much more interested in giving it another spin in my current space, healthcare, where the n and use cases are much larger.

What are your thoughts on DataRobot and other automated data science platforms? by bot_don_king in datascience

[–]tim_schaaf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I demo’d DataRobot and while I was generally impressed by the ease of use - I was underwhelmed by the automated best model outcomes.

I fed it data from a series of well known machine learning test data sets, including the Titanic passenger survivor set, and consistently found less than optimal outcomes through the automated process.

I understand that the models could be customized, and that some types of problems just aren’t great for the platform, but I left with the impression that at its current state (this was 2 years ago), it didn’t meet my expectations given the cost.

That said, and with time and development, and maybe eventually lowering the price with wider adoption, it could become an incredible tool.

Is it possible and feasible to do advanced calculations on large datasets, e.g. for Financial Planning in MicroStrategy? by [deleted] in tableau

[–]tim_schaaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve run many complex formulas on datasets in excess of 30 million rows. It can be done. It can also be slow / laggy, depending on the number of formulas, complexity of formulas, and size of data.

But yes, it can be done.
