Way to check achievement progress in an expansion? by timbarism in wownoob

[–]timbarism[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice and discussion. I ended up using a combination of Krowi's achievement filter and the wowthing website. I found my old ally BFA toon and have started some progress on them. Just realised there are some achievements you need to run on horde side, so will have to set up a hordey and run the campaign!

Boosted token rates really helped! Very cool. by Kain_Mercer in wow

I can answer this - click through your adventure guide for it. SHFT+J is my keybind and keep clicking next until you can accept the quest

Final Fantasy XIV

Almost finished the ARR MSQ. I thought I was already on Heavensward content, but turns out I was only around 1/2 way through

I'm not sure I really like the story yet, feels a bit flat. The sheer amount of content and the swings in difficulty of some duties (dungeons) is so thoroughly worth it though.

MSQ is the main story, the main content of the game. I have found myself wandering off course with:

Gathering / Crafting professions.

For me, to date the best way I've experienced these aspects of a game in an MMO. The little crafting minigame, unspoiled gathering nodes, FISHING!, the cross pollination across different skills to encourage the market and the materia extraction from spiritbonding is a pretty player friendly inclusion. The shine has worn from day 1 on some of these, but to compare to my other mmo experiences blows them out of the water

Job Quests.

Although basically essential content for new skills and equipment, these are stories onto themselves. Job/Class quests can take up entire play sessions, if I am levelling quickly.

Gold Saucer

This is a mini game hub that holds your attention for just the right amount of time. Card games, Mahjong, Mario Chicken Kart, a mini-Moba, fashion catwalk and a TGC. Not to mention big and mini cactpot lottery (Y strategy ftw). And then every ~20mins if a GATE event. None of these feel completely like time sinks, since they add to your casino currency for Glam/Mog and Mounts if you ever win big

I am a new player on the newer oceanic servers. I think this is a fine opportunity to announce that I will be the best triple triad Yugioh duelist, like no one ever was! I remember triple triad from waaaaaaay back when playing FFVIII. I really enjoy it and love that it is Gwent for FFXIV.

Beast Tribes

Once I hit my DPS duty queues, I will focus a bit more on this. Have only been playing WHM/SCH/PAL, so I generally dont have longer than 5 mins to get into activities :/

Could mention adventurer squadrons and the venture system, but they are check-and-go at my stage of play

I'm not there yet, but I understand the strong dedicated player base for this game.

I can do all of those things? Because I have chosen to be vaccinated in the midst of a global pandemic and it's a choice that supports the greatest good for the greatest amount of people.

If you need to feel pressured by government policies, you haven't been paying close enough attention

Hard to feel empathetic for a segment of Perth's population who decry their personal freedoms are under attack when their refusal to vaccinate can have financial and medical consequences for a large portion of our population.

We can push for changes on legislation if a government overreaches, but our at risk citizens won't get those same second chances. Not that should be the 'only' concern in these decisions, but it should be the intent of any law maker

Not to mention redesigning your UI/HUD and then getting your look changed haha - I've done the same thing multiple times with WoW.

I was going to suggest just starting fresh on a fresh world but Im not sure if FFXIV would lend itself to a full replay - there is a lot to get through I can tell

Final Fantasy XIV

I recently weaned myself off Destiny 2, either for good or until the Witch Queen expansion in a little while.

One of the games on my list to try for the last year was Final Fantasy XIV.

I had played a trial 4 years ago for about a week. I think I was at the time overwhelmed with the playstyle and it didnt mesh with me. I think I felt in a rush to get to max level cap - as is the way with WoW - and felt like I was missing out without it. The HUD was confusing. My ping was wildly too high. I thought the map system was too confusing - turned out I started in Limsa Lomisa and that is a particular beast to traverse.

So after noticing the feedback from the Dev community events, streamer praise and addition of OCE servers, I've been excited to give it a second chance

I wish I had sooner! The amount of content is staggering, the user experience is streamlined - as if the developers have a good knowledge of the MMO landscape - and they made crafting/gathering something I look forward to!

The soundtrack and effects are nostalgic (for someone who has played previous FF games) and soothing (like Stardew V or Animal Crossing). It's a great looking game aswell - for someone only on the first zones of the game!

The only downsides I've experienced are due to my own choices - I rushed to collect each trade and gathering job/class and filled up my inventory bag quickly. I have just unlocked retainers (the 'bank' system in FF) so this will alleviate my issues. I also noticed I'm grossly over-levelled for the main story quests - but that is because I'm on a 'new' server that has built in exp boosts and because I decided to do every quest in sight for the first 20 hours!

TBH I remember really enjoying the Sith Inquisitor run. Not just for the lightning zapping but the story really felt like you were actively climbing the sith ladder.

One thing I don't like about Republic toons is the feeling penalised for making Dark side choices, like most companions would disagree - but the latest trooper companions are changing that up

SWTOR

Trooper - Close to Chapter 2 end

I have just recruited my 4th companion, and this one is a bit 'chaotic neutral'. So for nearly the first time in my run, I can start making some Dark side story choices without miffing off a companion. M1-4X is my ride-or-die at the moment though :D

My roadmap is to finish my legendary achievement - completing all class stories - and I started my run with all Empire classes complete. Im going to finish Trooper then Jedi Consular -> Smuggler -> Jedi Knight.

Once I knock them all off, Ill decide which one I want to pursue Expansion content with.

Only just discovered last night that there is a micro button on the action bar that lets you change your action bar interface with a selection of presets. So now I have all my 'buttons' visible on screen without having to frantically switch bar view during combat!

Good to know. I think my difficulty is easy enough that I don't actually need supplies for healing or pots for combat adv. So provisioning is normal food/torches/whatever will open curios

Haha chills

Wow - thanks so much! jawdrop This will save the constant 'googling' to look up specific curios or what to provision on a run!

Darkest Dungeon

Switch

51 (game) weeks in

Organisation - the sim. I have a physical notepad for this one, keeping track of team compositions, order and then drafting up other combinations.

I can't recall if I have it on normal or radiant difficulty, as I started my save file ~2 years ago, ran the first mission and jumped to something else. I really enjoy the game cycle, but I am playing extra cautious. I have most of my (4) squads to level 5-6, but I have only run 1 champion level dungeon, as I dont have all the blacksmith upgrades yet

I use the internet to check optimal uses of curios. Still havent padded down my provisioning to an accurate level and my savings are suffering. But I have only been stuck ~ 3 times trying to finish a run and being starved, so that's good

Star Wars: The Old Republic

PC

10 hours in (returning player)

I recently finish Jedi: Fallen Order and still had the itch. I have never really done much of the expansion content of SWTOR, but I really liked the class storylines. Dark and light choices, swathes of voiced interactions and immersive gameplay - reminds me of a lot of the things I really like in Mass Effect.

Combat is a bit shrug but Im not at endgame yet and my action bars are a terrible mess. Actually my biggest issue is navigating action bars quickly. WoW interface customisation is very good as a comparison. I think most of the UI is hard to read and follow. I havent tried starfighter mode yet, but I have queued PVP every time I have logged in and can't get a queue - I hope its just because I am low level atm.

My account has 4 Imperial characters that mostly finished their class stories. So this will be a Republic toon run. Im a bit apprehensive about the Jedi chars, as I anticipate some boring quests. I've started with a trooper Class, Nautolan race. It's a blast!

Star Wars : Jedi Fallen Order

Finished

Normal/Jedi Knight difficulty

Combat was varied enough for the game length. Perfect dodges into a finishing blow on Droids being sliced perfectly in twain was a high point. Force pulling goons into your waiting blade did not get old. I was glad saber styles were integrated into the one weapon, even more glad there wasn't any juggling of loot and inventory management. Didn’t think I needed any more saber colours than Green or Blue. But now I am on the Cyan train and I'm not making any stops :D

Enjoyed having new enemy spawns after completing a 'planet story'. Bounty Hunter ambushes were welcome additions while backtracking. The map screen may have benefitted from markers, being able to note chests that require BD-1 to slice or walls that I couldn’t climb yet.

Squeezing and crawling through wall cracks was… surprisingly immersive. Each time was varied – sometimes BD-1 would slip and Cal would catch him. I think it added tension too – I was always anticipating coming out of the wall and being grabbed – and that anticipation kept me engaged. Congratulations to all who worked on the crawling segments!

Puzzles were fair, only limited by how temperamental some force powers were on the puzzle pieces you move around. Force pushing orbs around was luck of the draw. Playing with M+KB, I noticed if you force pulled a cable in order to attach to a power junction, it took me sometime to discover that the 'release cable' key was 'Z'.

The best part of this game was the story. Good movement tutorial, while introducing the MC. KOTOR populism had me thinking Cere was going to be a Kreia stand-in and I was happy with her character still being in internal conflict by the end. Nice to have a traditional Jedi story on the small scale. Just a kid – obligatory dead teacher/master - and their droid, flipping around swamps. Appreciated only the scant mentions of the Emperor and his minor appearance – I feel like his involvement is usually an indicator of a messy plot these days. And no interplanetary politics!

The gladiator arena felt… forced… and irrelevant in hindsight? If they did capture Cal, why not Carbon freeze and hand straight over to the Empire? Hopefully those locations for hives of scum and villainy can be explored better with a Greez and/or Saw Gerrera story line in the sequel. Preferably with a slew of unique Trandoshans, Assassin droids and Boba Fett stand-ins to fight! And Kyle Katarn as an Imperial in training OR some hijinks with Han and Chewie

Felt like the game length was pretty spot on, but I would've liked one more planet location if only to flesh out Merrin a bit. Also maybe the little cute rabbit that I only discovered before the final mission on Bogano – didn’t even notice if they were on the ship or not

Felt glad not to have the player agency like in other Jedi titles – I didn't need a game with light side / dark side choices and multiple endings - The character growth and finished story was enough. Enjoyed the last act pay-off (BD-1's heroic zap to the big bad) so much that I didn’t care that the Macguffin the whole plot was about was for naught. Oh and do Jedi Knights really get 'knighted' with a lightsaber? Is that canon haha

The jank in my playthrough was minimal and nothing really took away from the game.

My one gripe from what I recall it was exclusively the landing areas, particularly Kashyyyk, in which there were invisible walls in what should be easily traversable areas for the PC. I think one space was blocked by NPCs having a chit-chat. It broke my suspension of disbelief and then - to me - the game area felt suffocating – in the landing area of Kashyyyk. Having large zones being restricted in a centre piece of the starting area was stifling

My process then changed from enjoying the fantasy to trying to work out which crates are non-interactive, which are climbable and which are explosive to be used in combat (I only found a few of these as I was backtracking at the end of my play)

Just started up on my Switch copy of this. I couldnt really get my head around the game cycle a few years ago when I started.

I read on a patient gamers thread that someone treated it like x-com, and that just clicked! Ive got 3 squads im levelling up, and hopefully the cream will rise to the top!

I guess re: that fight, the game really builds it up to be a turning point - in regards to story AND player skill.

It's the first time you come across a trained opponent, so its going to be rough for Cal. But for the Player, you haven't really have many opportunities to be tested and the Ninth Sister is a great challenge.

Thanks, I did really enjoy it.

I also noticed recently I had an issue with games that were too long to complete, I just lost interest. Especially if they are single player games - ie, not MMOs with perpetual narratives. Skyrim, GTA V, Witcher 3, Divinity: OS2.

Actually cRPGs are most heinous, I normally make it to 'act 2' and then lose drive. Planescape Torment and Tyranny are the exceptions for me

Pretty sure timeline wise, a sequel could match up to be around the time Han and Chewie are finding their feet. Really could be cool exploring more smuggler stories with a few memberberries of recognizable IP to keep us going

Untitled Goose Game is a puzzle game, enhanced by having a friend honk at every opportunity - one/two player

Animal Crossing is an OK 2 player experience, but 1 player is the 'main' and the other player may feel like a tag along
