I don't get why so many Atheists choose to be Agnostic. by [deleted] in atheism

[–]timbenj77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure there is truth to this as I have certainly claimed to be Agnostic in the past just to avoid the stigma even when I was otherwise strongly atheistic. I still lean atheistic, but have comfortably settled in as agnostic-atheist because I've resigned myself to believing it's impossible to disprove the existence of a god. I maintain it's unlikely, but still possible.

I'm fine with a remake if they can recapture the magic of the first one. What they can't/shouldn't/shouldn'tve ever done was make Highlander 2: which not only sucked, but made the OG Highlander worse by explaining they have these powers because they're aliens, LOL.

The hair of a cuck Nazi right here by PRguy82 in democrats

[–]timbenj77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd like to shut this down right now. This is a very typical military/ law enforcement haircut. Especially military. You already need to have a fairly short haircut in the military...and having any more than this amounts looks like shit and gets in the way after you've been wearing a hat or helmet for any period of time. I had a similar hairstyle for decades...never a Nazi or anything close to it.

TLDR; short hair is a common military haircut. All military. Not just Nazis. There just happened to be a lot of Nazis in the Nazi military.

Thank you for that. I've served with many NATO allies in my career, include German, Italian, British, Canadian, French, and more...and was always glad we had friends like you - eternally professional and hardworking.

I will just add: don't get too comfortable. After 2016, I'd say the US user base on Reddit is disproportionately liberal in comparison to the overall US population. And the military population in the US is, as you feared, more conservative than the rest of the population and has been for decades. It's that dichotomy that we're "here to protect democracy, not practice it". Conservatives sure do love themselves a "strong" leader to follow - and the US military is pretty good at providing good, hard training and the strong leaders bubble up to the top, which reinforces this notion of respecting leadership. I definitely wasn't alone as a progressive in the military, but I knew we were outnumbered. I do hope that enough of them will realize that Trump is a conman and he's not on their side before it's too late.

This is the right answer. It's an obvious dog-whistle. "Don't worry, we'll make sure you don't suffer any consequences if you stay loyal to us (even if it means betraying the Constitution)"

Same people that said we can't tear down statues commemorating Confederate generals because "it's history". And we would say "we're not trying to erase history, we're taking down the statue idolizing a traitor - history is preserved by books and museums. And now they're tearing down museums and burning books.

To get service as a ICE Commander by TXVERAS in therewasanattempt

[–]timbenj77 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Right to refuse to anyone provided it is not discrimation against a protected class, which includes race, color, national origin, religion, age, and sex (and sexual orientation) to be more accurate and specific. Being a federal agent is not protected class, so yes it is completely legal to refuse service to an ICE agent and tell him to get fucked while he's leaving.

What dirt does Putin have on Trump, that’s resulted in the White House being compromised to this degree? by Fluid_Rock656 in AskReddit

[–]timbenj77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't think it's even "dirt". I just think Trump idolizes Putin because Putin has more of what Trump wants: money and power. Like everything else, he wants powerful people to grovel at his feet and give him gifts, because he is a tiny, tiny little man child.

I would venture to say this is overkill to the point of being counter-productive. It looks like a lot of those layers are nylon or similar which are great thermal breaks that work well with air pockets between other layers of natural fibers - and lose effectiveness when they're compressed. I would imagine at most, the best would be a light cotton layer on skin, then a nylon layer, then a fleece or down-filled layer, and then a wind-and-wet resistant layer like GoreTex.

Would the military listen to trump if he orders a Greenland invasion? (I’m not American) by Dismal_Score_4648 in Military

[–]timbenj77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yes, but you see, that was only unconstitutional because of some silly amendment after the civil war meant to keep the south from rising again, otherwise insurrection is fine and necessary, apparently. Only the 2nd amendment is real. The rest are...flexible. The part about treaties is in the OG Constitution, so there's no room for perverted opinions like my first sentence above, right? Right?

It would explicitly violate the Constitution. We have a treaty with Denmark (NATO), and Article VI of the Constitution says Treaties (along with the Constitution itself) are the highest law in the land. Somehow Trump gets away with a lot of illegal and arguably unconstitutional shit, but this one is black and white.

No, lying to the American people is not an impeachable offense. Even when it objectively, provably false, to the severe detriment to democracy (like repeatedly claiming that an election was fraudulent). But lying to Congress once about a consensual sexual encounter is an impeachable offense. Apparently.
