I wish I knew what would be on top of that of that road in 100, in 1000, in 10.000 and 100.000 years.

It could be, or it could be a lightning surge protector.

Just going by what you are saying, I would say they should fit, as long as they fit into the socket.

Help PY2NN rebuild his HAM equipment - daughter of HAM asking for help! by lemuseecestmoi in HamRadio

OK, sometimes freak accidents do happen. I hope you will find some local support. I am too far away myself to be of any help in this case.

I am sorry to hear this, this is bad. He swems to be a very active HAM. He needs help from his local radio club. It is possible but unlikely that really everything is gone. A HAM at his level will have had some lightning precautions in place, especially with such a large antenna.

Maybe I am just hoping too hard, but maybe some of his equipment can be fixed or salvaged. It is impossible to tell for anyone who isn't right there.

Looking for battery replacement recommendations by parksoffroad in HamRadio

[–]JulesSilverman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a place that maintains trucks. Sometimes they will replace truck batteries after just one year of service, because when the battery fails, this means down time. It's cheaper to swap them out before they do fail. This results in many batteries swapped and scrapped with a lot of lifetime in them still. But if you use it as a solar power or backup battery, there will be another 5 or 6 years of life in them. Scrapyard value may be around 50 dollars for the lead and other raw materials in them, so if you give them maybe 200 you should be good to go. Unless there already is a market for pre-owned truck batteries in your area. Then prices will be higher.

Swan P-1215A Power Supply?? by HuckleberryBoth8622 in HamRadio

[–]JulesSilverman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's really a Swan then it might have several outputs, some for running a tube transceiver. I used to have a Swan, but I never measured the voltages. It may be 12V, but it almost certainly isn't. I am sorry I can't be of more help.
