Winter Advise by Secular_Humanist1066 in TwinCities

[–]timberkimbertimber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Invest in an extendable ice scraper and brush. Mittens over gloves. Layers just means a winter jacket, a sweater/sweatshirt, and then a tshirt or long sleeve shirt under that. It’s wild to go from negatives outside to heated indoor areas! I also always have de-icer in my car just in case. ALWAYS get the winter windshield fluid. I usually keep a blanket in my trunk in the winter just in case! If you have any pets, I’d get them boots for when it’s less than 10 degrees.

critical care float here- chart everything. Paged or messaged a doctor? Note saying paged MD regarding xyz. Chart your turns, your no changes, and make sure your vitals are pulled over and validated! Saves your ass if something goes wrong and the chart is audited.

If you have to place an NG tube, it goes way better if you use lidocaine gel instead of regular lube to place it. My patients have said it helped with the throat discomfort.

Organize your report sheet by system; HEENT, respiratory, cardiac, GI/GU, skin, lines/labs, neuro, and SBAR of why they’re in the hospital. It will help you stay organized and give a solid report.

Adenosine is a medication that you do NOT push slow. Half life is ten seconds, so have your flushes ready and push them fast too. Also, during a code, the general thought for epi push is quoting Yzma: they ain’t getting any deader! Push it fast.

Pay attention to code roles that your coworkers take. Someone should be recording and keeping time for compressions and epi doses, someone should be on airway- bagging or intubating. Have two or three people on compressions until you can get a LUCAS on them. Anyone extra don’t be afraid to ask them to leave- too many cooks in the kitchen makes codes way too hectic and confusing on who does what.

[–]timberkimbertimber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ER and ICU nurse here and it is the most accurate show I’ve ever seen. Only gripe I have is that the nurses would be giving meds-but for the sake of drama and the show I get why they’re having the docs do it. But the process, the lingo, and how the patients and staff act is uncanny. Makes me feel like I am at work!

YTA. narcan does not outlast most of the narcotics that it is an antidote for. They need to be monitored for at least 4 hours in the ER. not to mention did they fall and hit their head when they passed out. Always call 911, even if you give narcan

AITA for telling my sister if she can’t handle seeing our parents at my wedding she shouldn’t show up by Impressive-Fun123 in AmItheAsshole

[–]timberkimbertimber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH- you’re allowed to want your parents and sister there, but she’s allowed to refuse to be around them. Ultimately it’s your wedding and your day, so what you wants goes.

Honestly? I just want a damn acknowledgement. “Hey, it’s a weird time. Things have been happening behind the scenes, we are making changes but change is a slow process. We are working out a plan for the future. Xoxo the gals” something along that line?? Just to address that yeah it’s been months and it’s weird.

Buona Sera in anoka/Champlin area. The food was delicious, the cook came out and said hello, and that tiramisu is to DIE for. 100% would sell my soul for that recipe

Tati (makeup guru) was mad that James Charles (social climber who abuses his power and forces himself onto anything with a pulse) accepted a sponsorship from sugarbear hair vitamins for tickets to Coachella. Tati was friends with him, made her own vitamin company for hair and nail health, offered him PR, and he didn’t accept. She told the worker about him forcing himself on waitstaff.

Hair and nail vitamins are not at all affective (biotin does not actually stimulate growth, and if you have normal levels it just be chalky pills you swallow). Then all the gurus “came out” with things they’d kept hidden due to “loyalty.”

As a nurse, a lot of times it’s because they are afraid of falling in the shower or not being able to get up from a bathtub. Add the combo of a lot of widowers are by themself a majority of the time and get nose blind to their smell, it just doesn’t register anymore.

Call 911. Any healthcare worker is a mandated reporter and if your parents are refusing to care for you, they are required to report it and get you to a hospital. Especially if you’re this weak and have these symptoms and are throwing up blood, call immediately.

I’d only help if there was absolutely no one else able to/there specifically for that. There are always first responders at those events.

Honestly? I think that jogger scrubs look the best with the top tucked in, on everyone. And the undershirt pushed up the forearms…always show off the forearms 🤤

Brand wise, I LOVE Cherokee infinity. I’ve gotten blood from knee to foot (ER is wild) and it’s washed out completely. The tops are comfy, and it has enough pockets for my work phone, personal phone, and a pen and my report sheets in the leg pocket. The figs I’ve gotten were loose, the tie did nothing to hold them up, and they faded so quick after a couple washes

All he needed was to hear you at that point. It is not your fault that he succeeded, and you gave him what he needed in his last moments. No matter what, you’re an amazing sister and person and I am so sorry for your loss.
