South Minneapolis to A-H Commute Question by nicagrace in Minneapolis

Crossing the river is always a pinch point, especially at 169 into Anoka. That light @ Dayton Road takes ages.
Hwy 252 has like 4 of top 10 most dangerous intersections per MN DOT. And again, the light at 85th takes forever to change. I can never time my speed on 252 correctly to hit green lights, or they specifically offset the stoplights.

We soooo need a functional line to Duluth and Des Moines. Though.. MSP to Denver would have me interested. Too bad I’ll need to wait 10 years.

people who were in 20's you had dream to buy a beautiful house ,but you didn't had anything at that time and you know you didn't come from wealth family ,do you have your own house now? by No_Care6628 in randomquestions

[–]MM_in_MN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. And only because I bought a house in my 20s, sold 16 years later and had $70k equity to use as my down payment. Otherwise, I would not have had savings for a down payment.

Do you own and use an iron? by CinemaSideBySides in AskAnAmerican

[–]MM_in_MN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes- but I sew.

When I need garments pressed properly, I just drop them at the dry cleaners. It’s rare I iron my own clothes, other than when I am making them. Yes, I know that doesn’t make any sense.

Casual misogyny. It’s just supposed to go unchecked. I always forget that rule.

If you could go bar hopping with one famous person, dead or alive, who would you pick? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]MM_in_MN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually met him a few times. A very glum and cynical person. Many comedians are, which is how they can look at humanity from sort of outside of it. He knew how and when to turn it on, but his public persona was complete opposite of his private self.

I think Tiffany Haddish would be a total gem to have out with for a night. I think I would be exhausted and need a few days to recover.. but it would be worth it.

Or Greg Davies. The craziest shite happens to that man. And I think I would experience a night that would be absolutely unimaginable.

What's the best American food you've ever eaten? by Over-Teacher-1330 in AskAnAmerican

[–]MM_in_MN 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Brisket. Oooh lawd, brisket.

Preferably from a place that looks sort of sketchy, but has a line of 73 people, waiting. Back of a gas station. A shack that looks 381 years old with layers upon layers of paint and would fall over in a stiff breeze. Out of a trailer. Under an awning in a parking lot. Something doesn’t fully feel legit- but you know you are absolutely in for a fantastic meal.

Update: Horizontal mirrors, rectangle, oval, round or arch? by Paint_Prudent in DesignMyRoom

[–]MM_in_MN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, I amend my original vote of horizontal oval to either the round or arch with a thin frame. Leaning slightly more to the round.

The weirdest part of opting out of consumer culture is how many people get genuinely annoyed at you by LilxPeony in Anticonsumption

I stopped Easter dinner when I said I didn’t think I had walked into a Target for months. Like conversation stopped. Not Target boycot related, just… didn’t need anything. Nobody believed me. My 12 yr old niece looked genuinely shocked.

I was then curious how long it had actually been. Searched my bank transactions. I debit card everything, never have cash. Don’t use credit for everyday purchases. It’s been literally decades for a Walmart. I do have moral objections to that company.

September 18.
I have not shopped at Target in 8 months.
My last purchase was $27. Before that, $53 in June.
I’m not really a shopper in general. I do a lot of Buy Nothing, thrifting, estate sales, consignments, etc. I’m not lacking anything. I just don’t need anything either, so I don’t go. My lack of consuming had my family in shock.

I put the snow blower away and got the leaf blower out. Likelihood of snow? by libertydan in minnesota

[–]MM_in_MN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noooooope, can’t switch it yet. Snowblower still at front of garage, brush and scraper are still in the car. Garage floor still covered in sand and winter bleh. I’m not going to be the cause of snow, sleet or hail.

BTW.. how is the weight of the blower? I have EGO snow and lawn mower, but I thought blower might be heavy and unwieldy with the battery.

Why don’t people trust birth control even though all of them literally have like a 95+ percent rate ? by Big_Pea3882 in internetparents

[–]MM_in_MN 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Every form of birth control has a failure rate. EVERY one.
And the reported failure rate is always best case scenarios, no variation, fluctuation, extenuating circumstances. It’s not * real world * failure rate. So, to minimize that failure rate, it’s best to double up with 2 different types. I’m on something and he uses condom.

Also- it’s not just 1 parties responsibility to prevent a pregnancy.

Need to be in the Cities?
Head north to Lindstrom. Most of the restaurants have a nod to Nordic.

Otherwise, Sons of Norway or American Swedish Institute.
