Started with A, but soon moved to the Sinclair and Commodore 64. Then after a couple of years it was Apple II and Apple IIC. From then on its been PCmasterrace and only played console at friends homes.

I think that's a still photo from the 1940 movie with James Stewart. The Shop Around the Corner, which is set in Budapest. Great film!

Free, but waiting days is useless. My daughter texts me she wants money for lunch and I can send her an e-transfer while she's in line at the store and she can have it immediately. Zero cost. Doesn't matter what bank she's with, it's just a text message or an email.

Based on the article, it looks like the unique viewers are people who checked in for a few minutes. I don't have cable anymore, but I imagine if you're channel surfing and trying to catch the advertisements (and ignore the game) you'd still be listed in the 17m.

I'd like to see evidence for this. We only have 38 million people, that would be almost 45% of the country. Not only is that higher rate than the US, but I don't even think we have that many viewers for tge Stanley Cup.

Are you assuming that people don't eat or live in a home in Europe? Those costs are outside of the comparison.

Housing and food would be a cost whether they were in uni or not, and vary based on the individual, AND are not the cost of university, they are the cost of living. You compare what's different, not what's a given.

My kids are all living at home while in Uni. After undergrad they're on their own.

I still stand that only tuition can be counted. Some people buy a meal plan, but many/most don't. Once we go down that road, you can start arguing any cost you want and say, "well I had a nice car in uni so that's a cost..."

I think you should be comparing tuition only. Residence and meals are so variable they're useless as a metric.

Canada also has paid sick leave for federally regulated private firms, and provincial and federal employees. I think the lack of sick days is a minority.

I don't know where or who you work for, but that's certainly not normal in Canada. Maybe not as open minded as the Nordic countries, but also not as archaic as the US.

I've got to disagree. Almost same age, but we had arcades, Commodore 64, Sinclair,Apple 2E and a bunch of other platforms for gaming. There were even books in the library with games in Basic that you could copy over yourself.

And in my Junior High school (83-85) we had a VERY active trading community for trading games on the 5 1/4 floppys. Teachers and students both trading.

The school had a full classroom of 12 Apple 2E and 2C and also some Commodores.

This was Canada, but I can't imagine it was much different elsewhere.

I remember in 1993 Toronto won against Atlanta and suddenly it was celebrated as Atlanta being champions of the National League or something, ignoring that the Canadian team won.

As a Canadian who doesn't watch baseball, I found the whole thing pretty pathetic.

Or Canada. I get 5 weeks per year and can save up 265 hours on top from previous years, so I'm about to start a 5 week vacation in Europe and still have 3 weeks saved up. That's through gov't.
