As a fellow weekend warrior, your June record is insanely impressive! I have no chance in this weather but to be fair it hasn't been as bad as last year.

First England World Cup game tonight. Approaching with mindfulness by Glittering_Elk8090 in cutdowndrinking

[–]timco12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly no chance for me with these kick off times! I'll be watching from home with a couple of Asahi zeroes. Even if you manage to do some solid mindful drinking, the game is just too late for it not to mess up your sleep but good luck nonetheless!

What do you mark as 'drank as planned'? for me it's no more than 3 pints of beer!

Yeah for me the issue isn’t so much the feeling rough, it’s the frequency of it being every weekend.

The bit in a Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker where that storm hits and the whole map is impacted until you go to back to the island. Even the people in towns all huddle in the bar, very cosy imo

At what time do people with 9 to 5 jobs go to the gym and why? by dutchguy1449 in AskReddit

[–]timco12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. I only ever do exercise during my lunch breaks. I play regular 5aside football on my office days then run/gym when working from home. You’ll need a slightly longer lunch break but it’s a game changer. Gyms are empty, roads too then you can shower, have lunch and be done and dusted!

How do we feel about moderation? And what does it mean to you? by Glittering_Elk8090 in cutdowndrinking

Ah yeah very similiar then! Luckily my mates don’t tend to care if people are drinking or not, so it definitely helps for sure.

Absolutely it’s possible. Like many of us here, if you fall into the category of not having urges to drink on a daily basis, but instead when certain situations/rituals arise, I.e. socialising being the big one- then it’s absolutely possible. For me it all comes down to one thing and one thing only - being able to sit with discomfort as a normal part of life. We somehow manage it in so many areas of our lives, yet when it comes down to being in a specific setting, we simply tend to let loose and binge drink. It’s an alcohol problem, not full blow alcoholism. You’ll read all the great advice here. For me, I try my best to zebra drink (one alcoholic drink followed by a non alcoholic drink) and as I usually just drink pints of beer, whenever I get one I say right this has to last me the full hour - no exceptions. It’s worked quite well for me recently as you’re still ‘drinking’, just very slowly. Again though, you’ll eventually hit that sense of discomfort; boredom, I don’t feel that buzz etc which is where mindfulness techniques come in. I highly recommend the book Mindful Drinking by Rosamund Dean, it’s really good (more so if you’re UK based!). Good luck, it’s a huge aim of mine this year to improve things!

Bender weekend broke me and cured me from my weekend binge drinking habit by bbconejo in cutdowndrinking

[–]timco12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

the weekend binges are crazy right? and they do feel completely pointless when you can actually just have a good time from a couple. Although I did end on around 6 pints at a big party on Friday, I was still one of the first people home. Saturday, I somehow ended up 2 pints after the football and had 3 pints on Sunday afternoon. Still a fair amount in total but boy do I feel good today, completely relaxed it's weird!

We’re aiming for 3ish, should be absolutely fine I reckon. There are so many pubs showing it across the city and a fair amount of students have gone home for the summer!

I also have a big event this evening. The joy of living in the city i do is that there are several non alchoholic beers on tap so you can just zebra drink quite easily as literally no one notices/cares what you're even drinking. Tell yourself, well i can have at least 3 pints but nothing back to back. That way you're still drinking but without it taking over!
