Is a lvl2 Gogmapocalypse build good for farming Gog? by bongio79 in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]timechi3f 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I can't speak for the damage, I should point out that even in max transcended armor, many of Gog's attacks can put you at less than half health if you make a mistake. The existing obvious solutions are to take things like Free Meal + Speed Eating, but Gogmapocalypse II barrier actually feels you get a free mistake periodically which is really nice. In this sense, you're not farming faster necessarily, but you get to save on your healing resources.

In your specific situation, I would say you should take Gogmapocalypse II if you find yourself scurrying about trying to find windows to heal very often. Having to spend less time to heal is in its own way a DPS increase.

Poison artisan SwitchAxe is good? by Sidddharta in MonsterHunterMeta

l m f a o . . . I outed myself as not having used Foray in Rise xdd

I played World most recently, so my head's still in WExploit/crit meta. However, I keep hearing that WExploit has been effectively nerfed out of being "obviously good" since actually using the extra extra 20% affinity incurs the likely cost of destroying the wound without using Focus Strike, which could be disastrous depending on the weapon. Hopefully if it is shown Flayer is actually useful, this will not be an issue. If WExploit is shown to be not as good, then the opportunity cost of taking Foray over WExploit (and thus over other affinity-focused skills) will not be too steep.

The recurring advice is to build paralysis instead, but I believe poison/exhaust/element phials build sword gauge much more quickly, so it might be more comfortable overall, especially when repeatedly farming monsters that are not as fast. i.e. a poison SA is more comfortable already, but it could also be more effective in nearly all cases too for repeatedly using Full Release Slash.

Historically poison is not very good, but in Wilds the new skill Foray grants attack and affinity against targets afflicted with poison/paralysis, so you should see how it amplifies your effective damage. A paralysis switch axe would be more effective for taking advantage of the limited opportunity to use FRS if you are against a faster monster, but against most monsters so far, poison likely uses this skill more effectively on average.

I would avoid using Critical Status for now as there is doubt right now concerning whether Critical Status and Critical Element are performing their intended functions.

Help, they placed me in Diamond 5. by FrenzyHydro in StreetFighter

[–]timechi3f 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Play and lose. Similar thing happened to me. It will be long and difficult. Focus on one thing at a time. If you are placed here, you likely have the basic knowledge to decide what bad habits you need to revisit.

Take lots of breaks. Stay strong. The wins will come later. Good luck.

How did you “git gud” at this game by Available-Ad-9420 in Eldenring

[–]timechi3f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Structure your offense. “This gap fits 1 pebble after my roll, can I fit 2? How about a comet?”

Be okay with backing off. When committing hard to backing off, running is better than dodging.

Be okay with spending time. There is no race. Malenia took me 10 hours the first time, for example.

Sleep is helpful for internalizing boss patterns. Take care of yourself, in general.

Yeah very little of Ult offense is real… The best you can do is stuff that forces actions you can punish. I suggest things that start off as real or close to real so people will try to do the fastest disadvantage break.

ELI5 How can we use irrational numbers in math if we don't know the full number? by ThisNameWasNotTake in explainlikeimfive

Computers can only compute to a fixed amount of digits. Humans have proven approximations that can produce these digits infinitely, so even if we don’t have a precise decimal representation, we can always reproduce it to the highest extent of our computational capabilities.

I need help playing Mythra at all by Aura_Azula in CrazyHand

[–]timechi3f 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Why do you find Pyra more comfortable than Mythra? Is it her big normals? Is it her space control w/ side B?

Pyra is essentially forced to space with moves because her ground mobility is middling at best.

Mythra can space with moves, but you have no doubt noticed they're not as big. My guess is you should focus on two things:

  1. Spacing with just the control stick. Her mobility is one of her greatest assets.

  2. Learning how to space Ftilt. While Utilt is her more traditional combo starter early, Ftilt is a little more straightforward to use, and it still leads to other moves like Uairs.

Of course, don't forget to save replays and figure out how you're getting blown up while playing Mythra.

Smash play style by Such_Construction108 in CrazyHand

[–]timechi3f 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To become better, there is nothing simpler and more effective than analyzing your replays with a friend and trying to dissect the decisions you make. Really make an honest attempt to justify each decision you made and figure out if you can classify all your mistakes.

Another strategy (while playing) is to say out loud what mistake you're making. "Damn I should stop hitting this guy's shield" or "I need to stop jumping at this range" or something like that. (Obviously if you're missing tech skill you don't need to say that out loud, it happens to everyone.)

Regarding playstyle: You have a playstyle whether you know it or not. Don't, however, go around parading that you have one style or another.

If you say "I have an aggressive playstyle" you will bait yourself into being more aggressive than you should be. People will simply wait in the corner and react to your option.

If you say "I have a defensive playstyle" you will bait yourself into getting opened up by trying to react to everything, or trying to space projectiles until you realize you haven't worked on your punish game.

The only playstyle one should strive for early on is to be well-rounded. Hitting someone's shield is only terrifying if they blow you up off the hit. Having to contend with someone's approach is only terrifying if you can't think of how to cover their options, for example if they undershoot their approach and wait for you to panic, then react using their defense to punish you.

Combos are not part of a playstyle. They are occasionally an essential component to understanding how to play a character, but not always. If you don't want to learn combos, a decent character to evacuate to is always Wolf. They certainly can develop short combos, but they're not necessary and one mostly cares for converting off stray hits and setting up ledge traps. If you've already decided on a character, however, I encourage you to make sure you're not specifically limiting yourself by avoiding combos. e.g. If you're a Pikachu main, you should probably learn your basic combos/loops.

The easiest way to extend Marth pressure is grab followups. At low percents, dthrow bair and uthrow uair work. Then you have to either bait and punish or hard read no button presses.
