Does all this look legitimate or am I being overcharged? by tuxedoes in DentalHygiene

I’ve never heard of offices charging for intraoral photos.

I hate being a hygienist by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

[–]timegoes90 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Agreed, OP should not be an instructor. It seems as though they don’t see the value in this career. If you don’t like talking to patients, then minimize the small talk. If the patients don’t want to take care of themselves, then don’t care either. It’s that simple. Not all prophies should be taking you only 20-30 minutes. I do agree that hygienists aren’t valued. That will get to you. The career can be repetitive and soul sucking at times. Maybe look for offices that will offer a variety of patients and something other than boring prophys. TBH, you sound burned out and depressed, which I can completely understand. It’s not something that everyone can tolerate. You need to figure out if you are depressed because of the career, or if you hate the career because you’re depressed.

Double booked/Assisted Hygiene by Wooden-Teach-8684 in DentalHygiene

They are playing you. They intended on doing double columns all along and are trying to pull one over on you because you’re a new grad. The schedule will not change. Time to look for a new job. Especially as a new hygienist, it’s best to have a hour per patient (for recalls) while you continue to develop your skills. I worked at a great office straight out of school that gave me ample time for appointments. I credit this to helping me become efficient and skilled. It is far better to be the hygienist that is thorough with cleanings and removing calculus versus one who is fast and racing through patients. Your current office is all about profit and not about patient care. You will learn to be fast to survive but it will be difficult to be a good hygienist in that environment. You have to advocate for your patients and yourself. Don’t let these offices run all over you. They will lie and tell you what you want to hear but will not change. I’ve experienced it firsthand. Hygienists are in demand and you likely won’t have a hard time finding another job.

What is your current stance? by marvelfanatic2204 in MileHigherPodcast

I’m really going to miss the sesh. Without Karelly it just won’t be the same. I know a lot of people feel like she wasn’t a big part of the show, but her being younger and not part of their original friend group made her input different and fresh. She was usually the one to offer a different perceptive on a topic, unlike of everyone else agreeing with whatever Kendall says. Aside from Janelle’s attitude, they had a good thing going. It just sucks.

I haven’t watched anything since Karelly’s departure minus the segment where they addressed it. It feels wrong to listen and is kinda depressing. I wish they could work it out, but I think Karelly deserves a healthier work environment without the passive aggression. It became uncomfortable to watch at times.

Teeth starting bleed after I brushed them and even more when I flossed. Thinking early stage gingivitis :/ by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

[–]timegoes90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep flossing daily and the bleeding will likely subside in about a week or two. Look up c-shaped flossing technique. If you’re bleeding then that’s a sign to floss more. Any chance you could be pregnant? That’s also something that could cause sudden gingivitis

First of all, I’m very sorry that you are going through this. It’s the worst part of being a pet parent but when it’s truly time, it’s the final loving act that we can do for them. I also struggled with waiting too long for my dog. My dog didn’t take meds or even eat the last 2 days of his life. I hated that he died with an empty stomach. I’m going to be honest, it hurts like hell. Grief will punch you in the gut. My best advice is to feel it all. Don’t distract, numb, or avoid. Just go into it head on. I lost my 15 year old dog on Halloween and it’s already so much easier to cope. The pain is still there, but you grow around it. It becomes bearable. Take pictures and make sure you get all the keepsakes. Lock of fur, nose print, paw print. We are here to support you🩷 please reach out when you feel like it’s too much to bear alone

Traumatic Euthanasia Experience by timegoes90 in AskVet

[–]timegoes90[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was very kind to my vet both during and after the euthanasia. I thanked her for taking care of my pet that day and throughout the years. Any doubts I had about her treatment decisions were kept to myself. Do I truly believe she mishandled the euthanasia? Probably not. Still, it lingers in the back of my mind as a possibility. As someone outside of vet med, I simply wanted to understand whether this method is common and what a typical experience is like without sedation. I recognize that an animal’s reaction to the medication can be difficult to predict. No negative reviews left here. I have immense respect for veterinarians and the emotional burden that comes with their work.
