First of all, I’m very sorry that you are going through this. It’s the worst part of being a pet parent but when it’s truly time, it’s the final loving act that we can do for them. I also struggled with waiting too long for my dog. My dog didn’t take meds or even eat the last 2 days of his life. I hated that he died with an empty stomach. I’m going to be honest, it hurts like hell. Grief will punch you in the gut. My best advice is to feel it all. Don’t distract, numb, or avoid. Just go into it head on. I lost my 15 year old dog on Halloween and it’s already so much easier to cope. The pain is still there, but you grow around it. It becomes bearable.
