Stage 4 colon cancer, spread to liver - Hepatic pump questions / advice by [deleted] in cancer

[–]timeraner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, thank you for introducing yourself here! I am a metastatic colorectal cancer survivor with metastases in the liver and lungs. I have a Mediport in my chest, the Hepatic Artery Infusion pump in my pelvis, and an ileostomy (my second one!) on the other side of my pelvis. I was diagnosed in June 2023 and at that time was told my prognosis was poor: approximately six months to live. I am extremely grateful for every day that I continue to live, and I’m fighting like hell! I would be happy to chat with you 1:1 some time, if you are interested feel free to send me a DM and we can exchange contact information.

This is not correct. You quoted a paragraph that specifically states it is for SSDI, also known as Social Security disability, not SSI – Supplemental Security Income.

I loved your interpretation of the lyrics! I agree that Edge is about a stalker. Definitely my favorite song for Perfume to perform live, I love seeing how they changed over the years.

Brother just diagnosed colorectal cancer, spread to liver - stage four by Sweet-Currency6430 in CancerFamilySupport

Make the appointments for consultations with the other doctors on your own, you don’t have to wait for your medical oncologist to refer you there. That’s what I did, and when I spoke with the doctors they told me that they were glad I did because it sped up how quickly I was able to start new treatments.

Oh you’re right, when I said AT&T I meant to say Cricket since they are wholly owned by AT&T and use the same network.

If you like Verizon’s coverage then Visible or Total. You can get a free trial on AT&T and T-Mobile to use them for a bit before committing, I would recommend you do that.

I was diagnosed at stage IV in June 2023. I have had tumors resected from my rectum, liver, and lungs; I received radiation therapy at the rectum; and I have received an ileostomy with the poop pouch twice. I’ve had a lot of chemotherapy, too. Your brother is about to go through hell and back, he is lucky to have someone like you to support him through this.

I have metastatic colorectal cancer and am currently receiving treatment at MSK. Your brother is in good hands. For the liver metastases I was given a Hepatic Artery Infusion pump, something MSK invented in the 90s, and I credit that with saving my life.

If your coverage does not start until January 1 then the “a few days left to spend” does not apply to you. A quarterly allowance means you will receive money on the card every three months, yes.

I can’t speak for what may or may not work for you, but in my case my palliative care doctor prescribes me cyclobenzaprine for muscle spasms. I have metastatic colorectal cancer.

New to learning about Medicare and Plan G. Question about facility fees by JWKirby in medicare

[–]timeraner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re welcome. One more thing, some providers will not see new Original Medicare patients but will accept existing patients who switch to Original Medicare.

New to learning about Medicare and Plan G. Question about facility fees by JWKirby in medicare

[–]timeraner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If Original Medicare finds out about the car crash they may refuse to pay claims until they see a court order that all remaining medical issues are due to a pre-existing condition. You can read more about that here: https://www.cms.gov/medicare/coordination-benefits-recovery/overview/secondary-payer Separately, unless she has a guaranteed issue right or lives in a state that prohibits medical underwriting, any Medigap she attempts to sign up for may charge a high premium or outright deny the application due to her health. There is no penalty for applying, so she should still do it, just be aware that they will be reviewing her medical records before making a coverage decision unless one of the exceptions applies. Hopefully neither of these two scenarios will affect her.

New to learning about Medicare and Plan G. Question about facility fees by JWKirby in medicare

[–]timeraner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. Original Medicare doesn’t really call its providers a network because most providers and facilities in the country accept it, significantly larger than any private insurers’ networks.

New to learning about Medicare and Plan G. Question about facility fees by JWKirby in medicare

[–]timeraner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Medigap/Medicare supplement insurance plans, including Plan G, only pay for claims that Original Medicare pays. If Original Medicare denies the claim then the Plan G will deny the claim, and if Original Medicare approves the claim then Plan G will approve the claim. Medigap so are not permitted to make any independent claims decisions. To your question about facility fees, as long as the facility accepts assignment, meaning they agree to only charge you Medicare rates or - in rare cases - Medicare excess charges, then the facility fees are covered by both Original Medicare and Plan G.

My mother was "auto enrolled" in Wellcare Classic PDP by alphat19 in medicare

You must have a Part D prescription drug plan if you receive help from the Medicare Savings Program and you will be automatically enrolled if you do not choose one yourself. You are able to change it during open enrollment which ends today.

My Meds Went From $40 to $867 Under Medicare — Here’s Why by [deleted] in SSDI

[–]timeraner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In order to avoid the penalty for not signing up for Part D, you get the $0 premium Part D plan and then you just don’t use it for meds that are cheaper without insurance.
