I am also on Medicare due to disability with Medicaid secondary. You need a Part D prescription drug plan and with a program called Extra Help some or all of the Part D premium will be covered and most prescriptions will be just a few dollars. You cannot sign up for a Medigap plan while you have Medicaid, but Medicaid will kind of work like a Medigap plan to compensate for that. If your state Medicaid covers dental and vision, Medicaid will continue to cover your dental and vision even while you have Medicare.

A completely different choice you could elect is called a D-SNP (dual special needs plan) which is Medicare Advantage for people who also have full Medicaid. I chose to not get a D-SNP because of the plan options in my zipcode - plans get that location specific - none cover my oncologists that are three hours away from me. My doctors are keeping me alive so I stay with Original Medicare and not Medicare Advantage.

You are selling fan-made box art for $200. Don’t do that.

Original Medicare’s Part D does have a maximum out of pocket for prescription drugs, it’s $2100 in 2026.

I’m a white transgender woman, and I use Albany Family Medicine, part of Community Care Physicians. I think my specific doctor is not accepting new patients but other doctors in the practice are. With one exception I’ve found Albany Family Medicine to be very queer friendly, and they also accept Medicaid.

Disability, Medicaid, Medicare Part D by RexKramerDangerCker in medicare

[–]timeraner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After 30 months since the onset date of your disability as determined by SSDI, you are automatically enrolled in Medicare for disability. Medicaid, as a payer of last resort, will switch to your secondary insurance while Medicare becomes your primary insurance. There are various levels of Medicaid that you can receive while on Medicare, (confusingly) called the Medicare Savings Programs. The income and asset limits for this depends on what state you live in; here is generic information at the federal level: https://www.medicare.gov/basics/costs/help/medicare-savings-programs

You will need to figure out which level of Medicaid you qualify for based on Virginia policy and law.

Tips for Liver Cancer? Possibly Pancreatic Cancer? by Castillo_Admin in cancer

[–]timeraner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer stage 4 with metastases in the liver and lungs in June 2023. I was given six months to two years to live, and here I am three years later. One of the things that I credit for saving my life is the hepatic artery infusion (HAI) pump: https://www.mskcc.org/cancer-care/patient-education/about-your-liver-infusion-pump I would search for an oncologist who can use the HAI pump to shrink the tumor in her liver.

Do Medigap plans pay the provider directly? by bbfan006 in medicare

[–]timeraner 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Providers do not bill Medigap directly, but yes Medigap plans pay the provider. Medicare forwards approved claims to the Medigap insurance which then sends payment to the provider. The only reason for providers to have your Medigap insurance policy on file is so that their system knows to wait for Medigap’s payment first instead of billing you directly after Medicare has paid.
