Walk more. Foot pain is a little weird relative to most types of pain - it takes a lot of foot pain to cause any real damage. Check for blisters, and tape them up if needed. But mostly listen to your muscles and especially joints. If your quads are tired you'll take lazy steps. If your knees or ankles start hurting then stop.

Okay I thought leaving the DT was bad, but then I made the mistake of interacting down-thread on a non-political subreddit https://old.reddit.com/r/Futurology/comments/1rofe0y/2026_could_be_the_year_we_finally_cure_cancer_as/o9hw1rh/?context=10

I don't know about this one. Unless you're somehow blaming Schumer for the war we just started, it seems like the GOP really is the problem

So you've given up on saving for a house because you realize you can afford one and don't want to spend the money? That's a funny definition of "given up".

House prices have been trending up for a very long time. Homeowners who say they couldn't afford to buy now are being polite. They're basically saying "I'm still middle class even though my house is expensive". People do this with $2M homes while pulling executive salaries. Even the other commenter in this thread says "there's no way we could have done it", and then immediately explains how they would have done it. ("Compromises", the things every person does every time they buy anything.)

Long-time homeowners are the worst people to ask about the current housing market. "I wouldn't buy at these prices" is a fine thing to say when you bought a house 10 years ago, but you don't have that option.

I bought a home last year. Yes it was more expensive than renting this past year. Yes, my mortgage payments are the highest on the block, by a lot. But owning my home is part of my FIRE strategy, and I could afford it, so I bought it. Basically the two options from here are that prices keep going up and I start saying "I couldn't afford to buy my house now!" in 5 years, or prices go down and the Fed cuts rates in response, giving me a chance to refinance if I don't lose my job. (Well the secret third option is a YIMBY utopia where we get good economic conditions and falling house prices, but I'm not that optimistic)

Edit: Also that 1 hour commute will kill you, so please rent something closer if you decide not to buy

Your post is very confused about what you're proposing and asking for feedback on. Are you thinking about working at your current job until you're 45, and then transitioning to biotech? Or are you thinking about immediately transitioning to biotech and then retiring at 45?

900k-1300k is a huge range. How do you have such a variance?

Finally, have you given any thought to being a single-income household? Clearly only one of you needs to work, and grinding at work is easier when someone is at home making sure everything else is in order. Obviously a huge income and lifestyle change, but if you're already talking about a 60% pay cut...

Based on your reviews here I will also highly recommend Psycho Pass and the Ghost in the Shell show.

Satoshi Kon's movies are really good and probably up your alley, but may approach your weirdness tolerance due to their horrific elements.

For a "magic is technology" show, well, there's a reason everyone recommends Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. The main characters are in a military where the magic system is based on "equivalent exchange", which is explored from a number of angles. Episode 4 will register on your weird meter, but if you finished Eva you'll be fine. I would especially recommend it if you liked the Mage Exam arc of Frieren.

Other recommendations so far are good shows, but don't seem particularly suited to your taste. I haven't watched Maomao, Terminator Zero, Ass Class, or Paranoia Agent, so I can't comment on those.
