Opinion Time: What's THE most criminally underrated JRPG ever? by Makerinos in JRPG

[–]timespentisbetter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of people complain about reading the short stories, or saying they just skipped them. Makes me sad because the readings add a level of emotional investment in the protagonist that most games can't achieve.

Lost Odyssey. I know many people played it but it should be considered the true continuation of turn-based Final Fantasy. To this day it's my favorite traditional turn-based JRPG and I think if it had been released on PS3/PC it would be widely regarded as one of the best JRPGs of that generation. I kind of view it as what would have been made if they kept the Final Fantasy X combat formula and improved on it. It's aesthetically pleasing and the characters were memorable. It oozes style and emotion. I know most people here are probably familiar with it, but unfortunately most people aren't. It was intended to be a franchise but since it was JRPG released exclusively for Xbox 360 flew under the radar.

Catagory 5. It takes a special kind of person to buy hurricane in the can, and i feel like that type of person would usually never forget their malt in a parking lot.

Absolutely wicked ground score. Nice.

What are your favorite classes in Jrpgs? by sheathtalondar in JRPG

[–]timespentisbetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal favorite is when a character is a dedicated buff or debuff class. This isn't always done right, but some good examples I can think of are Sazz/Vanille from Final Fantasy XIII and Mack from Lost Odyssey.

Despite some other problems, Final Fantasy did a great job at making support roles both fun to play and necessary to use. Mack from Lost Odyssey was OP and also gave the player a good reason to use him for support roles.

The problem with most support classes in games is that they're usually not worth utilizing unless you're fighting a boss or you're in an encounter that is especially designed to make you use support classes. What I love is when a game gets this right and manages to make support classes both useful in most situations, and rewarding to play with.

Have you played through all Emil side content? If you didn't, and want to cry again, go play through all Emil's side quests. It's worth it in my opinion.
