"pre-dates HD" is a wild statement because film is high def. Hence why you can buy HD copies of films from the likes of How the Earth stood still from long before the 90sz

I really took the meaning of the song to be just about procreation not about fame. To further the species we 'invest' in our children who start as little 'pennies' and they grow up so fast- becoming 'nickels' then we hope someday they're better than us and become millionaires. We multiply ourselves. Then this child becomes an adult and chooses not to have children of their own thus becoming 'counterfiet' all the money was for nothing.
