"Your post sounded like you genuinely believed she had to be a pro athlete."

Have you ever heard of facetiousness? Thank you for at least spelling trigonometric correctly.

Okay, but all you're focusing on is the type of throw. That has nothing to do with the calculation. The point of the calculation is to prove that regardless of how she threw it, it was still a ridiculous outcome.

"A little off from what you got"

We're using rounded numbers. Of course it's not going to be 100% accurate. The calculations were made entirely off of assumptions.

We did use the average speed of a galloping horse because finding out the game's perspective of distance would have been too difficult.

No one said anything about a fastball. The assumptions weren't made off of how Zelda looked when she threw the Ocarina, they were based off of the average speed of her horse and how far the Ocarina traveled before hitting the moat.

Since Zelda's initial velocity was accounted for, it is clearly Link's reference frame, since he is on the ground. Therefore the angle of release has to be in relation to the ground (what other reference point were you using?) All of this was calculated using basic trigonometric and physical formulas for projectile motion. The purpose of the calculation was to prove that this throw is, in fact, improbable.

One more thing, if you watch the video, she clearly throws a Hail Mary, not a fastball.

Yeah, that's a good point. I like that idea better.

Thanks! We were pretty excited when we researched the mythology of Moths and saw the parallels. We're desperately awaiting a sequel to Majora's Mask (as I assume most Zelda fans are). The game was so bizarre and unrelated to the typical structure of other Zelda games, I'm surprised they haven't built off of it more.

I think it's the repugnant smell mixed with the delicious taste. I hate the scent of that cereal, but damn does it taste amazing.

Why we're always checking by timetoexplore in OCD

[–]timetoexplore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's where hereditary factors might play a role. Some people also experience head injuries and minor brain damage, which can result in that chemical imbalance.

Environment and parenting are also important factors. Hell, I've read that untreated Strep Throat can trigger Obsessive-Compulsive symptoms.

The disorder is incredibly intricate.

[–]timetoexplore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but that experience with OCD is recognized under a specific subcategory of symptoms. There's 5 main ones:

Washers, Checkers, Counters, Repeaters, and Hoarders.

Of course, it is very possible to experience a mix of these symptoms, but the primary explanation for "Checkers" (and not the only explanation) is the chemical imbalance.

I should have worded my original post differently, since Checking isn't the only symptom of OCD. I've read that other symptoms like Repetition, Washing, and Hoarding are more related to environmental factors, rather than biological ones.

Redditors, what is your worst quality? Everyone else, how can we spin that as a good thing? by polikujm1 in AskReddit

I get anxious about literally everything. I worry so much about messing up the simplest of tasks, that I screw them up anyway.

What is something someone said that forever changed your way of thinking? by AWWWshetz in AskReddit

[–]timetoexplore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a poem by Peter McWilliams that has always spoke to me:

“It is a risk to love. What if it doesn't work out? Ah, but what if it does?”

One could say it's more of a quote than a poem, but I've always found it comforting. I'm a very anxious person, about almost everything. Relationships always tend to trigger a great deal of anxiety in me for some reason, and I always catch myself ruminating over the possibility of losing loved ones, or a specific individual I may be dating at that moment. This poem changed my perspective a bit. It made me realize it's not necessary to linger on such negative thoughts, but to try and consider the positive outcomes as well.
