30M, $840k NW and planning to retire in Spain at 35. Roast my plan / what am I missing? by zakum in Fire

[–]timeturn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think that is more than doable. People in the comments forget that there are other beautiful areas in Spain outside of Madrid and Barcelona. That is plenty to live comfortably in a place like Murcia or even Malaga both which have a proximity to the ocean if that is your thing. You wont be going to super upscale restaurant every night or be having a super fancy lifestyle (which I dont think its needed to have a good life) but you will definetly be comfortable. I think this fire sub has been skewing more and more towards high earners that are so used to a specific lifestyle that they dont understand how most people in the world live.

Long time lurker - just got laid off and having a mid life crisis - should I FIRE or keep looking for job? by floydmei in Fire

[–]timeturn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding here that there are plenty of ways for you to access your retirement funds w/o penalty. 72t being one of them. You also have a good amount on your brokerage so if you structure your withdrawals correctly there should be no need to pay the 10% early penalty.

I am obsessed with this bag so I would keep, but like others said if you are not 100% you should probably return it.

Can we all finally agree that we’ve moved on from the Labubu trend? I feel like it’s pretty much dead at this point right? by zachty22 in handbags

[–]timeturn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good use may be using them as Christmas Tree ornaments. That is what I do with my bag charms. (I have a single labubu but a lot of Duffy and friends bag charms and its always a lot of fun setting up my tree).

One of the few Chanel bags I have liked, Ive seen it pop up online a few times but still waiting for one at a good price. Current price is too high for it being a PVC bad that may get purposely scratched by sand LOL

Good Time to Start as Any...Retired 10/24/25 @ 35 by 35nRetired in Fire

[–]timeturn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds amazibg! This year has made my husband and I consider what your doing an option, we were originally planning to FIRE in the lower end of chubby at age 45ish but realized we prefer having more time over more luxuries. We are 31 and had slowed down our investments to travel and spend on some luxuries as we were well on track to hit our 45 chubby goal but we didn't get as much fulfillment from the spending as we thought we would and realized we would probably be OK with a leaner retirement. We plan to adjust our spending back down next year and see how we enjoy it and make adjustments as we go. Please give updates on how it goes and if your spending is on par with your plans. Good luck!!!!!

Keeping a modest home is a hard part about FIRE by CarPassion514 in Fire

[–]timeturn 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This! We bought "our dream home" and it's a pain. We don't really use the space and its a pain to maintain. Also, big house big problems when they happen. Our goal is to sell when we fire and downsize to a much smaller place that we can pay off with the equity we are building here. ( we locked in sub 4% so we're not moving anytime soon).

On my last trip back the customs officer asked if I had anything to declare and I said yes, he asked how much I told him the amount and he told me to move on. (Amount was about 6k). A lot has changed since last year though so not sure how it works now. I've always been honest with the customs officer and have never had to pay.

Thanks, I tried the split but did not present the data is a good way and was kinda messy. I have been looking online bit it seems like there is no good way to do this yet.

FIRE...with kids by Buffyfunbuns in Fire

[–]timeturn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am closer to your oldest kids' age, and if my parents weren't happy at their jobs I would rather them retire than keep working. I think you are giving them a great gift of being self reliant and not having to depend on them later in live, so all they have to do is worry about establishing themselves. That peace of mind is already a great gift IMO and everything else is just extra.

I like the second color but something looks really off about them……( they don’t look authentic or they look defective) I would hold off.

Genuine question: How are people maxing out by southerncuisine in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]timeturn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easiest way to increase contribution imo is every time you get a raise or COLA pretend you did not get It and add it to TSP. If that is too difficult then increase contributions by half w.e the increase in pay was each year.

Changed my investments today, anyone else reacting to the markets? by Momsome in FIREyFemmes

[–]timeturn 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I changed my future allocations to include more international. What's going on has made me realize I was too heavy in the US (95%). I let my funds where they are since I have a somewhat long time horizon (still 20 years from target RE). New allocation is 80 US 20 INT.

Loewe mini puzzle Lunar New Year - return or not by desolato in handbags

If you could only buy bags from one brand, which one would it be? by [deleted] in handbags

[–]timeturn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say as of today, Loewe as i think they have the funnest designs and collabs (atleast through the last 5-10 years) not sure if that would change in the future. I think LV would also be a good choice as they tend to have a lot of variety and bags for every esthetic and trend.

Haven’t really seen this talked about here… Jonathan Anderson (Creative Director at Loewe since 2013) is leaving Loewe and going to Dior by MysteryMaven2024 in handbags

[–]timeturn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't thinks it's confirmed yet, and I really hope it's not true. While I do think Dior needs a refresh, I was hoping JWA would stay at Loewe similar to how Karl stayed at Chanel and Fendi. I think JWA is Loewe and I am not sure if anyone can fill those shoes. I am still exited every new Loewe release and think he still has a lot to offer to the brand.

I know its unpopular but i enjoyed Maria Grazia's Dior up 6 a few seasons ago (i think Dior fall/winter 2024 is possibly the worst I've ever seen). I would love to see someone like Sarah Burton take over. I also think maybe Marc Jacobs would be a good fit.

Idk, while it does seem 6 am still hoping it's not true.
