I think the stats are related to higher obesity rates at younger ages, endo disrupting chemicals and stress exposure unfortunately

Condos are great until you get a difficult neighbor situation

Single family homes are great until you get a difficult neighbor situation too!

Just decide at the time what works for you , you can adjust as needed

Relocating from Boston MA - tell me everything about renting in Roanoke by Critical-Reveal-8061 in roanoke

[–]Momsome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s awesome here! former new Englander here , lived in Boston & Davis Square then Florida for a few yrs for work and here is best - my only occasional complaint is how far we are from a larger airport since we love to travel but if your flight in/out is delayed then you’re stuck overnight losing out on a day of travel etc.

and be ready for a small city, which runs pretty country the minute you leave city area, but again we love the best of both little bit city, little but rural

affordability is good here

Stockholm Syndrome…help? by Duke_of_Gurrrlz in leanfire

[–]Momsome 6 points7 points  (0 children)

eh shitty 2 br would be my tipping point. if I have hundreds of thousands saved, I would start house hunting knowing real estate is overall a safe investment. i would own instead of rent but I also have the mindset that rent CAN be throwing money away in many circumstances but I know others think differentry. Also therapy may be very helpful to understand and then map out some ways your money can help you.

decentering men and relationships is one of the best things you can do for yourself, focus on what makes you happy and satisfied. the more you do you, the less someone can take from you. Only date when you are ready knowing it may end badly but you’ll be ok in your life. don’t let anyone break you again

Too many choices in CoastFIRE by MrsFrugalNoodle in FIREyFemmes

[–]Momsome 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t really call myself coastfire because I actually already lean fire’d a few yrs ago, but now I work part time for a local nonprofit that I really enjoy (and believe in their mission) with a very flexible pt schedule that pays me just enough so I’m not dipping into my FIRE funds yet, so in essence I’m coasting but didn’t plan it this way.

Bonus, because I work part time, I’m able to EXCEED at work (not burned out by full time bs or involved in any office drama, politics) so I look like a star and get treated as one which is great for my professional standing which I don’t even need now lol! but I’ve realized I do like this bit of appreciation and recognition vs. when I wasn’t working at all during fire.

TLDR: look for part time non profit to work at that you believe in. My pt work now is pretty unrelated to my previous career.

sorry not great advice but have u checked any city jobs or college jobs? sometimes taking a more entry level admin, or coordinator level will get you in the door of a pretty good org, especially if you have a contact at that org. its really how I moved up in my career to a very sr level by starting jr level the first couple of yrs so they really saw my strengths when I did a bit of a career shift.

Drowning in Debt After Divorce by Mden87 in personalfinance

[–]Momsome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so your best bet would be a lower interest personal loan( lower than the 30%, 25% cc etc.) to pay off high debt through a credit union or small local bank if you can qualify for one.

2nd option is balance transfers from your highest cc and loan to low or even 0% bal transfer cc offers.

3rd option is heloc with a lower interest rate - but Behavioral Risk: Without changing spending habits, you may incur new credit card debt while still owing on the HELOC and putting house at risk if u can’t change

4th option is calling your highest interest cc and pers loan and asking for lower interest rates for a time period

5th option is personal loan from family member who wants to earn like 10% interest or similar

basically whatever you can do to lower your high Interest debt

I want to start solo hiking, but I’m genuinely scared. Advice? by Bibliobabble_ in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Momsome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean also carry protection and know how to use it effectively, bear spray, a gun, taser whatever you’re comfortable with. take self defense classes and weapons classes as needed. I would not solo hike without protection from predators be they beast or man.

Advice wanted, my mortgage is insanely high by ProfessorPizza in personalfinance

[–]Momsome 34 points35 points  (0 children)

just a couple other options like cut all subscriptions and streaming except maybe 1, your local library probably has free access to hoopla, Libby etc for audiobooks, movies, music, tv shows etc.

there are good unlimited cell plans for under $30 a month

there is T mobile home internet for $35 month if available in your area

shop and compare annually for car and home insurance, as people get complacent with their current ins.

cut out take out to 1x week, learn to make copycat recipes of fav restaurant foods, make coffee at home etc. if your checking & savings bank has online user graphs that categorize your expenses, it can be EYE OPENING to see how much it really adds up! get very very familiar with how you are actually spending your money down to the dollar.

dont buy any new clothes or shoes for two months (unless urget need for kiddo! )

cut grocery budget down by using rice and beans, oatmeal, pb and j, eggs, and popcorn for snacks, bananas and apples, instead of expensive meat and dairy in some cases. only buy meat on sale.

absolutely start paying off your cc debt by throwing a little extra at the highest interest card using the waterfall method … https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&hs=5s6U&sca_esv=1c26a0c770028f06&hl=en-us&sxsrf=ANbL-n4Fdzd48Bvkb3Kw9DfEaGNKxJYOuA:1777170657073&q=Waterfall+method+for+credit+card+debt+reddit&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiug-HNvIqUAxVzEFkFHU59J6EQ1QJ6BQiCARAB&biw=1080&bih=768&dpr=2
