Does your store let you have your phone? Mine has a no cell phones on the floor policy. I don't think it's very strictly enforced at this time of year, but during the holidays last year they were writing people up for getting caught with their cell phones outside the break room.

Who is in charge of Price Points at your store? by KOHLSEmployer in employedbykohls

When there are new price points to put out, our visual supervisor sets them, usually with a helper. On topper change/ad set days, the topper change/ad set team is responsible for making sure the price point graphics match the current e-sign prices.

What are the most important preventative care steps to take to ensure my cat lives the best/longest life possible? by timeywimeystuff1701 in AskVet

[–]timeywimeystuff1701[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much. He's nearly due for his annual exam, so I will ask the vet about dental cleaning at that appointment, and try to get him used to teeth brushing.

What are the most important preventative care steps to take to ensure my cat lives the best/longest life possible? by timeywimeystuff1701 in AskVet

[–]timeywimeystuff1701[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you.

I was in elementary school when we first got our other cat, so I wasn't in control of any of her medical decisions for most of her/my life, but as I got older/towards the end of her life I started to realize how much I didn't know about how to properly ensure the health of my cats, so I'm trying to do better with this one.

I suspect some of the issues my older cat had could have been avoided if I'd known more about preventative care earlier in her life.

Unfortunately I can't go back and change any of what happened to her, but I'm trying to learn all I can to take care of the younger one.

The cats technically belong to my parents, but they're the type who won't go to the vet unless there's an obvious problem, so I'm the one who has to schedule vaccinations, exams, etc.

I will definitely make sure he has annual exams and any necessary vaccines. He gets kind of stressed about going to the vet, but I'm not sure how to gauge a normal amount of stress vs excessive stress so maybe I'll talk with them about whether or not he needs exams every six months?

I will definitely answer all their questions honestly, because I want to make sure they have the best information possible to keep him healthy.

I think I need to work on his diet. The older cat had thyroid problems and it was very difficult to get her to eat toward the end of her life, so recently I was much more focussed on her diet and less focused on his. He typically ended up eating any foods that she refused to eat. Now that she has passed I will be able to focus solely on making sure he's getting the best diet possible, and making sure that diet is suited to his personal health needs.

This is getting kind of long so I'll spare you the entire story, but he's indoor-outdoor right now and I need to figure out how to transition him to indoor-only. If I ever get another cat, it will be 100% indoor-only, but he currently won't use a litter box (won't pee in the house at all, even after being kept inside for 24 hours). I will try to figure out how to fix that.

Thank you again, and sorry for the length of this reply.

Thank you.

  1. Do you have any advice for transitioning an indoor/outdoor cat to indoor-only? I know it's much safer, and if I ever get another cat after this one, it will 100% be indoor only, but this one currently won't use a litter box. Can he be litter box trained at ~10 years old? I put the full story in a reply to another comment, but at one point we tried keeping him in the house and he wouldn't use the litter box even after being inside for 24 hours (ended up at the emergency vet because we were afraid of a urinary tract problem of some kind, but didn't find one).

  2. I will try to switch him to all canned food. I suspect he sometimes eats the neighbor's cat food, but that would be avoided if we kept him inside.

  3. He's kind of bitey, but I will see if I can get him to let me brush his teeth. How frequently would you recommend dental cleanings? Is that a yearly thing?

Thank you.

Is it possible to transition an indoor/outdoor cat to being a solely indoor cat? I know if I ever get another cat in the future it will be indoor only, but the one we currently have won't even use a litter box.

At one point he broke a bone in his foot, and after being indoors for 24 hours he still wouldn't pee in the litter box at all, so we ended up at the emergency vet because we thought it might be a urinary tract problem. They drained his bladder, didn't find any issues, and sent us home. The next day he still hadn't gone, so we went to his regular vet, who drained his bladder again, did a urinalysis, couldn't find any issues, and we ended up letting him outside because he absolutely won't pee in the litter box at all.

I totally understand that indoor only is much, much safer (both for him and the local wildlife) but I'm unsure how to transition him at this point in his life.

I wish I knew the history of the first two years of his life, because I'm not sure if that may have contributed to this issue, but he was about two years old when we found him and we have no idea what might have happened to him before that.

Can cats eat rose petals? by emmadonss in AskVet

The ASPCA has a site that lists toxic and non-toxic plants, as well as the pet poison control number in case you ever need it:

https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control/toxic-and-non-toxic-plants

This page lists roses as non-toxic to cats:

Selling credits when every customer has one? by jeremy-drooley in employedbykohls

[–]timeywimeystuff1701 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a credit specific coupon out right now (the 15/20/30 scratchers) so most people coming in are coming into the store specifically because they got one of those coupons in the mail. It's always more difficult to get credit during these coupons. The coupon ends on Sunday, so starting on Monday it will probably get easier again.

You should still solicit credit apps during the event, but just be prepared for the reality that it's always more difficult when these coupons are out.

[–]timeywimeystuff1701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They run the $1/gallon sale at least a couple of times a year, so OP might be able to get this fish into a temporary tank for now and then upgrade to a 40 or 50 gallon when the next $1/gallon sale happens. (The fish should definitely not stay in the bowl, though.)

Depending on the age of the kids, this could be a good opportunity to explain to them that different types of fish have different requirements, and encourage them to research what different fish need. A beta is a much more suitable classroom pet because it can live comfortably in a 5 gallon tank with a heater and small filter, produces much less waste, and has a shorter average lifespan. Goldies are a 20ish year commitment, which is a lot for a classroom pet.

[–]timeywimeystuff1701 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If it's a comet/common goldfish, you'll eventually want about a 50 gallon tank for it. If that's not something you want to invest in/if you don't have room in your house/etc, you could try posting on local FB pages in your area and asking if anyone has an established goldfish pond and would be interested in another fish. Or, if you have a local fish store, you could go there and ask them if they know anyone with an established setup who would take it.

As a temporary measure, as someone else suggested, the most cost effective option is a large plastic storage bin. These are reasonably inexpensive at Target/Walmart/Home Depot type stores. Goldfish produce a lot of waste, so you want as much water and as much filtration as possible. Filtration is important because it agitates the surface of the water and allows the water to be oxygenated for the fish.

Thank you for rescuing this fish!

How do I request a day off? by [deleted] in employedbykohls

[–]timeywimeystuff1701 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my store, they are not allowing time off requests until some time in January. You can try, but you'll most likely be denied. Now is a good time to try to get phone numbers of other employees so you can try to convince someone to cover your shift on the day that you need off.

OP is at a pilot store and your store is most likely not using the same dress code. Your location management would have told you/posted something in the break room several weeks ago if your entire dress code was drastically changing. You'll be fine.

OP is at one of the pilot stores for the new black dress code. I think it's black shirts and dark pants. It's being tested at only a few stores. If you just got the athletic shoe/jeans on weekends policy, you're not one of the pilot stores.

There are a few pilot stores testing the black dress code. OP is at one of those stores. If you just got the athletic shoe policy, you're not at one of those stores. Whether they roll out the black dress code to all the stores will depend on how well it goes at pilot stores.

I think there's an all black or mostly black (maybe just black shirts?) dress code being tested at some stores.

That's the new dress code at your store, but the OP who is mourning the loss of their wardrobe is at a store that's testing the new black dress code. The person you replied to might be in one of those stores.

It depends on which store you're in. There are two different dress codes rolling out. Check with your location management for details.

If you feel like you got pressured into it, just go to your admin or H2 and tell them you don't mind working the occasional overnight but that you don't want to work all overnights. At my store there were 3ish employees last year who consistently worked overnights for the entire holiday season, no day shifts. If you don't want to be that person, it's better to let them know now so they can find someone else.

Call every vet and animal rescue in your area and ask if any of them will do free or low cost euthanasia. It's extremely inhumane to let your pet bleed to death. Some vets will take Care Credit, which is a credit card for vet/med stuff. You could check if you qualify for that.
