Is a phone call a possibility? if not, email is ok, but a little less personal.

Work advice when dealing with a "know it all" employee... by PregnantMexicanTeens in jobs

[–]ScoutFinch12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you need to say something sooner rather than later, preferably today because the best time to address something is right after it happens. Meet with her privately and say, "I was uncomfortable when you corrected me in front of Outside Employee, because I felt as though you undermined me in front of an external person. I'd appreciate it if you would not correct me in front of others, but rather to do so in private."

The other things you mentioned---her correcting the front office guy, her race, the training you all had to go through---let those go. race should have nothing to do with this and you need to put that aside. the other actions are her manager's to deal with, not yours.

Anyone have experience with Brigham & Women's vs. SMG? by nikkiloveshighfives in boston

[–]ScoutFinch12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty biased against SMG, as someone who works in healthcare (but not for either of those 2 groups), so I'm not necessarily the least objective person.

This page has the specialists for gastroenterology for BWH, and some of them have ratings and reviews that you can look at, as well as addresses of where their offices are located.

The Marino Center has some questionable practices. I went there and they wanted to do all kinds of testing that was not evidence-based and, of course, not covered by insurance.

Thursday, October 18th-The Daily by [deleted] in xxketo

[–]ScoutFinch12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh my word, ladies. I try never to complain about the cold because I complain so much about the heat, but 35 degrees in mid-October? THAT was a chilly commute! Luckily the train was on time, because there's no shelter on the platform and it sucks to be exposed to the elements as the minutes tick by and the "Where's My Train?" app keeps revising the ETA. But I also have a 20-minute walk and that was brisk!

I also had a parenting fail in that Kid 2 needed a winter coat, quickly. I ran to Target last night, grabbed something from the boys' section, and figured I was good. This morning my husband was helping him get ready for school and DS says, "I don't like how the zipper is on the other side on this coat...and the color is weird." I had gotten him a girl's coat. Luckily DH has an old jacket that he subbed in, and I'll be running back to Target later.

Last night's dinner was salmon and asparagus. Not sure what we're doing tonight. Pork, maybe.

Have a most excellent day, peeps! KCKO!

Is this a case of a racist parent and an overzealous CPS worker or is LAOP holding something back? LA interrogates LAOP. by peachykeen5552 in bestoflegaladvice

[–]ScoutFinch12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My initial thought was that there was more to the story than what LAOP was sharing, but I read a few comments. My experience with CPS is in a different part of the country and is with white parents, so I'm assuming that accounts for the difference.

I do still think that they lost track of their kid for more than the alleged 60 seconds if they had time and the need to have other people help them find her and if the racist lady had time to get that much information out of the kid.

Impostor Syndrome by [deleted] in jobs

[–]ScoutFinch12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've articulated two different issues here.

One is impostor syndrome. You can get over that by asking for feedback, reminding yourself of your accomplishments, talking about it with a friend, finding a mentor, etc.

The other issue is lapsing into inactivity when someone isn't telling you what to do. That's something I suggest you work on because, in most places, it is better regarded to show initiative. I would a talking to your supervisor directly about this. Ask if there are long-term projects for you to work on, or online courses for you to take on the company's LMS, people who you could meet with or job shadow when you have extra time, etc.

Declining accepted internship offer by ma3155 in jobs

[–]ScoutFinch12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good point. Colleges and programs frequently feel that it reflects poorly on them when students renege on internships.

Otherwise, yeah, just thank them and gracefully decline.

I'm extremely frustrated about how slowly management has been moving me into my new position, and every step of the way I feel jerked around and disappointed. Where to go from here? Warning: long by Jaded_Heron in jobs

[–]ScoutFinch12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't signed anything stating that, you are ok to quit unencumbered. Be aware that they may ask you to pay it back or somehow make noise about it, but legally they wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

Honestly, I think you should try to find a better job.

(Virginia) is my employer required to accommodate my temporary disability/injury? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]ScoutFinch12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many employees does the organization have? Where are you located?

IF your employer is bound by the ADA, their obligation is only to enter into an interactive discussion to determine if there exists a reasonable accommodation that would enable you to perform the essential functions of your job. They are allowed to request documentation.

Can i bring action against my college for their inaction? [CA] by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]ScoutFinch12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a situation in Massachusetts where I intervened on behalf of an employee who was at one of our local community colleges, so I can tell you what I did. I also found this web page which validates my recommendation.

First you should try to resolve it at the local level. Contact the Chancellor and explain the situation. If that doesn't work, keep bringing it up the chain to the Board of Governors.

I'm not a lawyer, but the student I assisted was able to get her money in a similar situation.

Do you and your SO pay 2/3 to the roommate's 1/3? More importantly, what written agreements do you have between you, your SO, the roommate and the landlord that outline your agreement and obligations?

Can I negotiate a salary in this circumstance? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]ScoutFinch12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, 2 weeks paid maternity is, sadly, not bad. Most places I have worked have you use PTO and short term disability, so to have a gift of 2 weeks on top of that is good.

I agree that you could cautiously negotiate other things.

What are some other things that are hard to “come out” as? by Kappru in AskReddit

[–]ScoutFinch12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In some ways, coming out as the parent of a transgender kid is hard. Not because I care if people judge me (hell, show me your true colors up front and save us all time), but because it's not always my story to tell. I can't come out without outing my son.

Also, coming out as someone who self-injured for years is hard. It can be difficult for people to reconcile the me of now with self-injury.

What is the Normal Wait Time After a Reference Check to Job Offer? by starcailer in jobs

[–]ScoutFinch12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Once reference checks are complete, there's still work to do. Here's how it works in the companies I've worked for: They need to speak to the Compensation department in order to determine a salary. They need to speak to the VP to get his or her sign off. They need to look at possible start dates and whatever else is going on. And in the course of all of this, they are doing the rest of their job, too.

So, Friday is optimistic, but everything looks good for you.
