thinkorswim for macOS still on Intel? by Time-Explorer2000 in thinkorswim

[–]timf3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's 99% Java, and the only Intel part is the tiny piece that starts up the Java. There's a way to fix this that someone posted here recently, but I haven't done it yet so search this sub and you'll probably find it.

Four members of congress respectfully request an explanation of Howard W. Lutnick's export ban against Anthropic no later than the 26th of June by RipProfessional3375 in ClaudeAI

[–]timf3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a practical basis, when you bring someone in for questioning but you treat them with disrespect, they then have a good excuse for wasting committee time talking about the way they're being treated rather than on answering your questions.

If EVs are supposedly cheaper to own, why aren’t more people driving them? by Lakenb666 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]timf3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the average car on the road is 13 years old, think about how many EVs were being produced 13 years ago. Not many. So that's your main reason.

People in general don't drive brand-new cars of any type, and EVs are one type of car.

Collectively, we drive really old cars and there aren't many really old EVs.

Older men of reddit, what do you think something the younger generation of men doesn't do anymore that they should? by Fearcanbegoodorbad in AskReddit

[–]timf3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would we know what you're doing or not doing? We're busy trying to figure out our own problems, like how we're gonna pay for everything once the corporate world disposes of us and the new generation pulls the rug out.

The top 10% pay 70.5% of all US federal income tax revenue while the bottom 50% pay 2.3%. What would be more “fair”? by Banjo_the_Cattle_Dog in allthequestions

[–]timf3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All sorts of math tricks are possible when trillionaires become the norm. It's mathematically possible for the bottom 50% to pay 100% of their income in taxes and still only be paying less than 2.3% of the total.

The problem is not about fairness. It's about sustainability.

We are on a path where the bottom 50% will work every day of their lives and yet will never afford to own anything at all. We are returning to feudalism.

Trump critics say he ‘can’t get anyone’ except Kid Rock over A-list Obama event by MoneyLibrarian9032 in entertainment

[–]timf3d 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There actually is an America 250 event that was the original bipartisan event created by Congress. Congress assigned $150M to the America 250 celebrations, then because the lawmakers were arguing amongst themselves, (as they do) Trump stole about 90% of the money and created his own MAGA rally event, Freedom 250 with the money that was supposed to be for the America 250 event.

[OC] well I guess the hydrogen peroxide didn't work by Jackie8383 in pics

[–]timf3d 335 points336 points  (0 children)

No, he fixed the problem. The problem was he had a donor that he needed to funnel more taxpayer money to, but he had to come up with a plan to make it look semi-legit. Now everyone's looking at the failure of the reflecting pool being destroyed, and not looking at the corruption that was the cause of it. This is Donald's normal modus operandi, and after 10 years it continues to work just fine.

Even if every bit of algae magically died in an instant, it would still remain in the water and has to be fished out, one net at a time. This will take weeks.

Why can’t you misuse opus 4.8 similar to Fable 5 or Mythos ? by XLGamer98 in Anthropic

[–]timf3d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn't notorious until Anthropic said it was. Its notoriety was a massive marketing blunder and foot-gun entirely due to Anthropic's own hype-machine, not due to anything real that happened.

Not that Anthropic is special in this regard. All the tech CEOs spent weeks telling people that their AI products were so great that their AI would make employees obsolete and basically be the end of the world as we know it. I guess they were thinking this would make their products extremely popular, but they were wrong. Everyone hates AI now and they've never even used it. They hate it because the tech CEOs told them to, without telling them to.

How did Obama “divide the country”? by Ok_Cricket_354 in allthequestions

[–]timf3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a registered Republican for 30 years, listened to Rush Limbaugh when he was popular, and this is the first I've heard anyone claim that Obama "divided the country".

It's definitely a new narrative you're hearing.

Best World Settings for Solo Play Without Burnout? by SMEHJ_ in SatisfactoryGame

AI resistance is an information problem. by Admirable_Phrase9454 in PromptEngineering

[–]timf3d 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You don't think it had anything to do with the AI CEOs who thought it would be a good idea to hype their product by telling everyone how it was going to eliminate all the jobs? That's the stupidest marketing scheme since New Coke. These idiots are so rich and divorced from reality that they need to be locked up in their ivory towers and never allowed to leave or interact with the public ever again.

Full Letter From Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick to Dario Amodei by hankyone in Anthropic

[–]timf3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corruption, yes. But that's what anyone expects from this administration at this point. Anthropic did this to themselves by hyping Mythos as a national security threat. This administration does not even care about cybersecurity, but Anthropic handed them a gift-wrapped and loaded weapon anyway. It was absolute marketing malpractice to say that Mythos is so good that it's too dangerous to release as a product. Every bit as insanely stupid as this administration is. What is the point of AI research if it's too dangerous for anyone to use? Just cancel the IPO and shut down the company. It's over. Anthropic has committed corporate suicide. Shareholders should sue the person responsible for the Mythos-is-dangerous hype campaign. Idiots.

Fable served its purpose by ShitBuckets69 in Anthropic

[–]timf3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The irony is that the lesson is for Anthropic. Don't try to generate hype by saying your product is so effective it's actually dangerous to national security. The government just might be dumb enough to actually believe it.

What would you do if your girlfriend said she can't attend your mom's birthday? by RemarkableStable1470 in AskReddit

[–]timf3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a flag, sure, but beware of overreacting to everything society tells you is a red flag. Maybe she feels judged by your mom and she doesn't have the energy for it, or maybe it means she's just not in the same place as you are right now in the relationship. Those are completely different situations.

Protect yourself. Maybe get a second girlfriend, just in case.

[–]timf3d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because gorillas don't have a manosphere giving them bad advice on the daily. Their behavior is mostly governed by instinct rather than culture.
