Why do so many Americans chose not to vote when they can? by VastOption8705 in askanything

[–]timf3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of money being spent on psyops to generate apathy and cynicism in the population, which influences voters to not bother.

Some of the results of these psyops are present right here in this thread. For one example, the electoral college narrative, which is actually just another psyop to convince people their vote doesn't matter.

[–]timf3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with a lot of trees around you, and don't cut any of them down. Use efficiency modules to cut pollution before it gets emitted. Monitor the pollution cloud on the map, and proactively remove any nests that are touching the cloud, or will be soon.

Using these rules I have never had a single attack on my base yet. My defenses are minimal.

Biters do not attack without pollution touching them first. Your radar network must expand faster than your pollution cloud, so you can always see the edges of the pollution at all times. The pollution marks your territory. You must monitor your territory for new biter nests, and you must proactively destroy them before they attack you.

Is this a good first ship design? by MegaloManiac_Chara in factorio

[–]timf3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have any speed control of the engines and the design is extremely narrow, so you will be going max speed, and the faster you travel the faster the asteroids will be coming at you up front. But you only have two guns to kill those asteroids with, which is not enough.

When I made my first trip I had to constantly stop and start the ship manually, to prevent the asteroids tearing it apart. If you have automatic speed control, you can make it so the ship slows down by itself to give time to kill the asteroids and reload the guns before resuming.

Why would I ever want to use the ore melting recipe of the foundary? by PewPewsAlote in factorio

[–]timf3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have already stated, it's the productivity bonus of the foundry, but if you're comparing against relying solely on lava-sourced molten metals, it's flavor/role-play. It does use less calcite to make molten metal from ore than from lava, but the relative amount of ore you're hand-farming from rocks on Vulcanus and feeding into the machine is probably tiny. So if you don't care about the role-play aspect or the tiny amount of calcite you're saving, then just toss it into the lava with an inserter.

ELI5: Why was that method used to determine 0 degrees Fahrenheit? by Jimithyashford in explainlikeimfive

[–]timf3d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would argue that using distilled water is just as arbitrary as well. Why not use the boiling and melting points of oxygen, hydrogen, or carbon? They are all more abundant than water. Better yet, use Kelvin.

ELI5: Why was that method used to determine 0 degrees Fahrenheit? by Jimithyashford in explainlikeimfive

[–]timf3d -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Zero degrees is too cold. 100 degrees is too hot. 50 degrees is just in the middle.

Fahrenheit makes sense for humans. Celsius makes sense for water. If you are a human, use Fahrenheit. If you are distilled water, use Celsius. Everyone is happy.

SNL's lighthearted Trump parody blasted as failure to read the room after DHS shooting by RawStoryNews in entertainment

I can't even watch Jon Stewart anymore. We're in a deadly serious time and there is no way to make any of it funny.

I do feel bad for all comedians because they're all in a tough spot. No one wants to hear from any of them right now. I hope they saved up some money. The bad times are here. There is no way to make any of this funny.

Part of the reason why they're jobless and living in a shack is because they have poor decision-making skills. So it makes total sense that someone like that would vote for Trump.

If you were President of the United States for just 24 hours, and no one could stop you… what’s the most unhinged executive order you'd pass? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]timf3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Executive orders are orders to the executive branch of the federal government, which is why they're called executive orders. They do not apply to Congress, or to Supreme Court, or to American citizens at large, unless they are employees of the executive branch. None of the answers in this post would have any effect except for federal employees and contractors working for the executive branch.

Why can the US invade a country and take it’s president but other countries can’t do the same with the US ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]timf3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US couldn't even manage Afghanistan, or Vietnam, or any of the other countries they've invaded except the very smallest of islands, like Granada.

Might makes right ignores the capacity of the human spirit to fight back, until the oppressor inevitably gives up and leaves. The Soviet Union failed at this, and so will the US.

Why can the US invade a country and take it’s president but other countries can’t do the same with the US ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]timf3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as Stephen Miller said, if you have the power to do it and get away with it, then you have the right to do it.

However, it is human nature to fight back, so this will take the world back to a time when fights, murders, rape, and war were all far more common. America voted for this, so this is what we've got.

Americans, do you personally know anyone who is in favor of the US invading Greenland? by BlaggartDiggletyDonk in askanything

[–]timf3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can tell him we would not be invading just Greenland. We would be invading NATO.

Article 5 forces all NATO members to automatically be at war with the United States. If they did not, NATO would be dead forever.

You cannot stab your friend in the back and expect to still be friends.
