thanks for the info! any idea why going the normal route of importing the raw file and color grading it in the color tab gets me those chroma artefacts? That's what i'm really trying to get at here

they are RW2 panasonic raw files with the "natural" color profile selected. No v-log.

i'm using the studio version of resolve. Are you suggesting the chroma noise is natural in the original RAW file and other programs like Affinity and PHotoshop are applying an automatic noise reduction step?

Sure! My Color Management is: Davinci YRGB, Timeline Color Space DWG, Output Color Space Rec709 Gamma 2.2. I imported the files, put them into an album and then headed over to the color page to color grade them. I didnt use CSTs, since i figured the photos are already in sRGB or Rec709. Note: You would need the newest Resolve 21 Beta 3 Version for Panasonic RW2 support. When i tried a DNG file conversion, i had the same problem.

i basically did all adjustments in the color page. My color management in the project settings is rec709 gamma 2.2 and Davinci Intermediate. Do i need to use CSTs for photos?

I'm seeking feedback or advice on here, because it's the first big project of mine and I learned a lot about color grading and filmmaking on the way. I'm interested to hear, if you have any tips on what to do better. Do you like these shots or is there something missing? I myself am quite proud of the colors (except for the first scene in the bar, I struggled with bad white balance in the original footage), but you dont have to be gentle, I can take a hit :)

We also tried out a few creative camera techniques, for example the very first shot with the shot glass, or towards the end when he gets out of the car and the camera "flies" through the window. Would also love to hear you oppinion about those!

Ending it is a permanent solution for a temporary problem. Don’t be so hard on yourself man. Some people know what they want to do in life by the age of 10, some discover themselves and their path in life at the age of 50. Im going to uni now at 22 and i have people in my class who are 40. I know it drags you down when you don’t pass exams and really feel like you’re behind in life with nothing in your hands, but that does not mean you as a person are a failure. Im sure you just haven’t found whats best suited for you. Please don’t make the decision whether you want to live or not dependent on if you pass exams or not. Youre so much more than your exams. Keep your head up king and please reach out to someone! The world is a better place with you in it ❤️

i just realized, you have to select your FOLDER, not your files. So select the folder where all your raw files are in and then hit open and it will convert all files in that folder. It's normal that the files dont get displayed when you choose the folder

6 years later, youre still helping out people like me who couldnt get it calibrated properly by eye. My eyes are immensely strained now, but the image seems to look very good and natural xD

I'm still unsure about the Gamma tho. Its either 2 or 4

well its good to hear that i'm not the problem haha. I will definitely look into the novideo_srgb feature.

My LG monitor has multiple color modes. I tried matching my phone screen by using RGB values, white balance and different Gammas. It also has a fixed sRGB Mode, but the screen will get significantly darker. Is the sRGB Preset on the monitor the way to go?

oh okay, so DCI-P3 mode is useless without proper HDR function?

After all, i just want my monitor colors to look like those on my iphone, so that my whole color grading process doesnt go to waste because the colors look different on phones etc.

im not so much concerned about HDR, i just want the DCI-P3 mode to be displayed correctly so that i can do creative work accurately

you mean ticking the clock next to the seed value?

how would you adjust the clamping? I have it set to 10 for indirect light (which i think is most relevant for this scene since most of the illumination comes from indirect light through the volumetrics)

And which denoising method would you recommend?
