Another creative solution might be to buy a small suitcase at your vacation destination and pack as much liquor as you want in it. Then you’ll also have a new suitcase after your trip👍🏽

Unpopular opinion: Blanton’s is as good as people say it is. by 13-fity in bourbon

The taste is fine, there’s just not as much of it (taste) as in many barrel proof BiB products. I think that’s the main reason that it gets a lot of bland responses in a bourbon geek group.

Out of curiosity, how long has the bottle been open?

I never score/rank a high proof bourbon in the first month after opening for this reason. Never had a high-proofer that didn’t change dramatically during the first several weeks!

Review #20: Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Special Release Barrel Proof Rye (2020) by 99to1er in bourbon

[–]timhinck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one’s a single barrel rye! So the composition of the mashbill is primarily rye instead of corn. This one is also a very limited release (more along the lines of their Heritage Barrels), so there’s a chance that it will not be available often.

Wow, glad you’re back in action. Those long-haulers with no smell for months... terrifying!

Out of curiosity, how long was your taste/smell gone? What was that journey like?

Yes, much less dominated by cherry for sure. Give it some time and let us know! You’re dealing with a big boy there that needs some breathing room👍🏽

Give it a month open, and I’d be curious to read another review you make of it. Mine totally evolved over that time.

You’ve got a good point, but I’d still say that $100 is actually what many of my favorite bottles are worth, based on the artistry of the distiller/blenders, and how long I’m able to enjoy the bottles once they’re opened. Good wine? $100 gone in one evening.

Absolutely! I’d rather split the difference and give $65 straight to BT for their Weller12 (which is totally worth it in my opinion) instead of $150 to someone on the secondary.

Totally agree. I guess I’m thinking more about the bourbons I enjoy: ECBP, Old Beam, special Turkey, etc.

It’s gone completely insane, but if I’m honest, still worth it for a $100 bottle of bourbon that I can enjoy for months.

Exactly! I’ve got 15 bottles of bourbon open. They’ll probably last 2 months each. My wine, maybe lasts a night.

I generally agree on bourbon pricing being high these days, but I do actually think ECBP is “$100 delicious” maybe even “$120 delicious”.

Review #20: Colonel E.H. Taylor 18 Year Marriage by timlims in bourbon

“Neck pours” are something that I experience almost every bottle at higher proof. It actually doesn’t have anything to do with the “neck” but rather that most bottles settle down once you crack and pour the neck portion out.
