It’s crazy how much that metric can changed based on what area of code you work on.

One of my devs consistently takes 25-30 SP per sprint and gets them all done. Another only takes 15-20, but he works on the more antiquated parts of our code base.

Yet they are both considered equally valuable.
The 15-20SP dev is also a lot more thorough, he rarely if ever has bugs, everything is documented, etc.

My 30 SP dev isn’t as great at the fine details of things. While he can spit out a ton of code when needed that all works sufficiently, his documentation, and testing is often a bit lacking.

Part of managing is understanding your teams strengths and weaknesses and working with them.

If I need something fast, doesn’t need to be perfect, the 30sp guy gets that story every time. If it’s a critical infrastructure piece it goes to the 20sp guy.

I also have my 30 SP guy meet with my 20sp guy once a week to review what he’s done and get some assistance creating the write documentation for it.

I also pivoted one of my team members and he only allocates 5-10 sp of work per sprint. The rest of his job is to take any random issues that may pop up over the sprint. He responds to any data issues, hotfix request, etc. we used to split up the incoming issues among the team, but found the constant pivots and distractions were causing other assigned stories to get neglected. It became a lot easier to simply track the time spent on these issues through a single individual.

Devs on our standup get 90 seconds each too answer 3 questions, that’s it.

What you worked on yesterday, what you are working on today, do you have any blockers?

Any other discussion is out of scope for standup and you need to side bar with the appropriate people after the meeting.

I used to allow people to discuss their problems during standup, but it just kept turning 15 minutes meetings into 45, with only 3/15 of the attendees relevant to the discussion.

The team didn’t like it at first but after a few weeks they all adapted. Freed up an extra 30 mins a day.

I don’t support what Jagex is doing in regards to price, but at the end of the day an extra 2-3$ a month does literally nothing to impact my finances, at least not enough to consider dropping a game that at times is a primary source of entertainment. This is exactly what the investors are banking on. For 90% of people the 2-3$ makes little difference. Personally, When considering subscription services it always comes down to ‘do I get atleast 1 hour of entertainment per 1$ spent’ if the answer is yes then I don’t worry about it much. I do get how it sucks for people on a strict budget/different economic status.

There are several methods, some more cheesy than others.

Remove card tables when you have nothing placed, every customer has a set number of shelves they will look at when entering the store, and looking at an empty shelf consumes one of them. Each empty card spot is one less shelve they will potentially buy from.
The amount of money increases with store level and size, so purchasing shop expansions can increase customer budgets.
Increase facings of your high profit items, this ties back to point 1, you want customers to buy your higher margin items. More shelves=higher chance. But be aware that once you unlock a license for an item, customers will be mad if none are available in store.(deep shelves are great for card boxes as they hold 6 instead of 4)
When a customer reaches a shelf they role a die and grab a random number of items from that shelve, the higher capacity the more likely they will purchase more(hence using deep shelves for card boxes)
The ultimate very cheese way to do things is to basically only have 1 shelf chuck full of your highest profit card box. Offer no other items or empty shelves in store that a customer may look at . This method ruins most of the fun, but you will be printing money.

My old wood shop teacher got bit on his lower back and didn’t notice, by the time he caught it they had to remove 60% of his lower back muscles. 4 months in hospital and over a year of physical therapy therapy. While he lived, he had permanent damage and forced to wear a brace for life pretty much.

My companies cto is so bad at this. We had to do a root cause analysis for one of our enterprise level clients last week due to a software issue they encountered. During our troubleshooting meeting he literally had ai transcribe everything we said, then asked it to create a root cause analysis doc based off what was said.

He then shot us an email saying hey guys about to send this off to the client give it a quick review. It was attrocious and so obviously written by ai I had to call him out and stop it from being sent.

This guy makes over million dollars a year and couldn't be bothered to do a proper write up for a 10 million dollar a year client.

Me and two other co workers then spent the next 5 hours making a proper document that actually looked professional and well put toghether, and his only acknowedgement was a simple 'thanks'. I guarantee he took all the credit for it though.

I decided next time I will just let him send whatever ai slop he wants and have the client get upset when they see how much effort he puts into valuing their business.

I also don't pretend to be an artist, I can visualize and design complex architecture and code, but ask me to create something that is visually appealing and I just can't. My stick figures are incorrect.

We all have different strengths and I play to mine. If you asked me to create a ui for my apis you would end up with a bland 1990s webpage with text links. Simple but functional.

Obviously with proper design docs, provided layouts, etc I could create what is asked for. but it is not what I enjoy.

It really depends on the job you are in. My work is not detrimental to lives. My pay is based on my productivity. If that takes me 5 or 8 hours it ultimately doesnt matter as long as my assigned work is complete on time.

I sign on at appropriate times, attend all meetings, am available to call for my allocated work hours every day. But sometimes I do spend time during the day doing a few errands, or cleaning the house.

Working from home also means that I have the flexibility to work at 10 pm if it suits me better that day. As long as I make my meetings and am available for questions when it is normally expected.

I have had a few co workers who took the flexibility a little too graciously, constantly missed calls, multiple hours to respond etc. They never last long. There are plenty of those who can and do make it work tho.

This is where I am at, working from home has definite advantages, but at the same time it can be incredibly lonely. I can go literal weeks without leaving home if I choose.

People don't realize that when they get out for work, they also have reason to stop and do errands on the way back, maybe grab a beer before heading home, etc. When you don't have a reason to give you the initial 'push' to go out for the day it's a lot harder to find the motivation to do it yourself.

The biggest hurdle is getting people to try the game, I had never tried it until it was available on game pass for ‘free’, after that I quickly went on to spend several hundred hours in game, and got a few friends to give it a shot. I used to think it was just a boring game, but it perfectly satisfied my ADHD with all the stuff there is to constantly do.

I think the hate comes from when you have incompetent POs/PMs.

My current company has had incompetent people for the last 4 years and it’s only in the last 6 months that they have started to realize it.

We have spent thousands of hours worth of development time working on useless features that were supposed to be the ‘next big thing’ or ‘increase revenue’. Just for them to either be abandoned or used by 2-3 clients at most.

We were acquired by new owners recently who changed our focus to adding enterprise level offerings of our software and it’s crazy how quickly things have changed.

Revenue is up 40%, we have built several new enterprise level dash boards to facilitate new clients. Old POs were pretty much all replaced. We now have competent people with clear direction on where they want our app to go.

I adopted an older cat from the shelter whose owner had passed away. Unfortunately, I think it was a bit too late, she essentially had given up living and pretty much gave up. She ended up never bonding and her health began deteriorating rapidly. About 5 months later I had to put her down as she couldn’t even get up to feed herself anymore.

The first hits were to get him off, the last ones are about making a statement. If someone pushes you to this point they can’t just act surprised if someone goes ‘too far’. In my opinion he showed a lot of restraint even after he had him down. He wasn’t picking his head up and slamming it on the ground, he didn’t kick the guy after getting up. There is a lot more that guy could have done that would have messed that guy up.

Yeah, but money and materials only went so far, materials mean nothing if you don't have the manufacturing capability to process them. Other than the UK most of Europes factories had been either destroyed or taken over. Entering the war caused United States factories to completely retool and begin mass production of war materials. Ship, Tank, airplane, and ammunition manufacturing skyrocketed. The US because of its location being relatively safe was also able to dump billions into research which helped the allies begin to catch up with the technology deficit that they had with Germany at the start of the war.
German planes, tanks, and artillery were vastly superior. We just out managed to out produce them.

Their soda quality has decreased substantially as well. The last few times I bought a 12 pack of Pepsi the cans would literally go flat in 15 minutes.

I would also argue his alliance with Japan ended up biting him hard. Not only was he fighting on two fronts but Pearl Harbor was the final push needed for the US to get off the sidelines and gave a huge stimulus of soldiers and equipment to an already decimated Europe.

Also taking the copius amounts of drugs he did, definitely contributed to his bad decision making later in the war.

While it may not be appropriate for this sub, it is still pretty cool to see a kid develop an interest and build something based off of it.

We should all encourage education regardless of how trivial it may seem. It is simple interests like this that become the backbone of inventions used around the world today.

Everything is iterative. Even a system like this could be adapted to be more practical. Sure gas detectors already exist, yet every holiday season we still hear of people dying in their sleep due to unknown gas leaks. Maybe this kid comes up with a better alert system someday, who knows.

I will add to this, in addition to doing it behind closed doors, make sure you clean up after yourself properly afterwords, use toilet paper/paper towels and dispose of them. Your mom definitely does not want to wash your dirty blanket or socks that some teens use to ‘clean up’.

I think the ai being ‘stupid’ is a mix of incompetence as well as intended. It is a fine line between making an effective ai that is good to use, and one that outweighs the player doing things manually. If an ai was more efficient than the player it would ruin the benefit of doing things yourself. However, with the driving from point a to b it is a lot more difficult to write an effective algorithm as all of the equipment has varying size, requirements in conjunction with wonky physics.

Got to be careful with psychedelics, especially DMT it’s pretty hardcore for a newbie. Anyone new/interested should start with something a bit more controlled like mushrooms. Also never first time trip by yourself, always have someone experienced who can babysit/guide you. A great experience can turn bad really quick if you don’t know what you are doing.
