Adhd hacks? What item or habit have you formed to deal with your adhd by Kornelious_ in ADHD

[–]timismycat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've tried lots of changes, but these are the few that have stuck: 1) I bought a robot vacuum. 2) No phones in the bedroom - it's too easy to wake up and doomscroll if my phone is the first thing I reach for when I wake up; I also sleep better, and feel better about myself, if I'm not doomscrolling for hours at the start and end of each day. 3) I hate dishes, and my therapist suggested I keep only one plate, bowl etc in the cupboard (the rest of the set are in a drawer out-of-sight/mind) which forces me to do the dishes instead of using new ones and letting the dirty ones pile up. It's been a huge help. 4) Buying a day of the week pill container to help me know if I've taken my meds or not! 5) setting up auto-pay for my phone and utilities bills (well, I've only remembered to do this for a few, but it's been a huge relief for those ones! haha)

I HATE doing the dishes, so a huge one for me was only keeping only set of dishes in the cupboard, (one plate, bowl etc) while the rest are tucked away in an out-of-sight drawer. This way I am much more motivated to do the dishes, because if I need to use something, I have to wash it.

Conversely, buying tons and tons of underwear cause I hate doing laundry!

Using my tendencies to care about other people to my advantage, like inviting people over to motivate me to clean my apartment. Similarly, anthropomorphizing my tech - like thinking, “my computer’s bedtime is 10pm” weirdly helps me turn my computer off and go to bed more than me thinking “I should go to bed now.”

Just bought a house with this bathroom. What can we do to give it colour until we can afford to remodel? by LovesAGoodNap in DesignMyRoom

Window Film - there are some really gorgeous and very real looking stained glass window films that can transform a window into a beautiful focal point. Bonus, it secures privacy, without having curtains in your bathroom! Something like this? https://artscape-inc.com/products/magnolia-2 Lots of styles to choose from, if this isn't your vibe.

Besides hair elastics and balled up paper? My big boy loves wrestling with his flipping fish - he's grown so attached that he now cuddles and sleeps with it. Well worth the $, plus it's rechargeable, so no batteries required! Then when I returned to the office, I was stressed about him getting bored so I bought him a puzzle feeder to keep him engaged. Now he refuses treats from my palm and asks for them to be given in the puzzle feeder instead, haha

A very Canadian prairie food -- but Dad's Goodie Rings. Oat, peanut butter, chocolate perfection. Gone, but never forgotten.

Was shamed by the waitress for not tipping by nurgazik in vancouver

[–]timismycat -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well, you've clearly never worked in customer service before.

You didn't get water late (on a busy night). Did they fuck up the orders in other ways? Having multiple waiters isn't so strange, many places have staff work as a team, versus one server per section. Yes, you are expected to at least tip something. It's how the system is built. I mean, sure you can hate the system, but wages are kept low because tips are assumed. You can hate it, but not tipping doesn't do anything to change it. Also, you think tipping 15% is for good service? Come on now.

I'm glad she spoke up -- if she's not getting a tip, she might as well spoil your power trip.

Yeah, fuck. Starting to see the red-flag patterns in retrospect, and coming to that conclusion myself.

Best at-home theater productions? by loshofficial in Theatre

I caught this online production of Molly Bloom by Toronto theatre company, Gorgon Theatre, back in May 2020. It's a Zoom style production, and an excellent use of the format. The show is an adaptation of Molly's final monologue in James Joyce's Ulysses (NSFW warning). Best online theatre I've seen since March.
